BettingDiaryThere are 2 ICC T20 World Cup fixtures taking place on Wednesday and we suggest a bet in each.

NEW ZEALAND v SCOTLAND

This game takes place in Dubai. New Zealand have played twice in this World Cup winning 1 game and losing the other. Their loss came in their opening game against Pakistan, but they bounced back strongly with a brilliant victory over India last time out.

The Black Caps won the toss and elected to field first restricting India to 110 for 7. There were plenty of impressive bowling performances by the New Zealand team, but Trent Boult stood out with his 3 for 20 in 4 overs. The batsmen having got to business chased down the score with 5.5 overs to spare and 8 wickets in hand. Daryl Mitchell opened the batting and top scored with an impressive 49 at a strike rate of 140.

Scotland have lost both their opening games arguably against two of the sides they may have fancied their chances of beating. Afghanistan were far too strong for them in the opener, winning by 130 runs and they then played Namibia where they started favourites, but could only get 109 for 8 before Namibia chased that down with 4 wickets in hand and 5 balls to spare.

New Zealand 1/14

Scotland 9/1

Suggested Bet: Highest Runs in a Single Over, Over 18.5 runs at 17/20

When a match is as one-sided in the betting as this one you have to look to the Exotic Markets and I guess I will be hoping that New Zealand bat first as that will increase this bet’s chances of arriving. In any event the way New Zealand play the power play overs I think there is a decent change it arrives early.

Suggested Bet: Top Home Bowler, Boult at 5/2

I can’t see this Scotland top order living with the pace and accuracy of Boult and think he will be amongst the wickets once again.

INDIA v AFGHANISTAN

This match takes place in Abu Dhabi and Afghanistan currently sit above India on the log with 2 wins in 3 games while India has yet to open their account after 2 matches.

India have been dealt 2 heavy defeats and their chances of progressing in this Tournament now rests with other teams. Pakistan beat them by 10 wickets in the opening match and against New Zealand they batted first getting 110 for 7 with Jadeja top scoring with 26 down the bottom of the order. The bowlers failed to make an impression although Bumrah impressed with his 2 for 19 off 4 overs as New Zealand won by 8 wickets and with 33 balls to spare.

Afghanistan opened their campaign with a convincing 130 run victory over Scotland and they then fought hard before going down by 5 wickets to Pakistan with 1 over remaining. The most recent match was against Namibia where they batted first to score 160 for 5 with the Namibians falling 62 runs short.

India 2/9

Afghanistan 7/2

Suggested Bet: Pre-match Handicap, India (-5.5) wickets / (-25.5) runs at 17/20

The pressure on this Indian teams is immense and Afghanistan won’t be pushovers, but I do think we will get a firm bounce back from Kohli and his men and they can beat this handicap and win in convincing fashion, as they will know that even if other teams slip up their net run rate is very poor and desperately needs to be improved.

Suggested Bet: Top Indian Bowler, Bumrah at 9/4

He really is the stand out bowler at the moment and with Afghanistan’s strategy attacking from the off this could well play into his hands.
