BettingDiaryWith the Formula 1 Championship already in the bag Mac Verstappen heads to the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas as the short priced favourite for another victory. We take a look at the race from a betting angle.

Max Verstappen wasn’t certain he had wrapped up the Championship when he won the Japanese Grand Prix as there were only 28 laps raced, but in the end full points were awarded and his closest title rival, Charles Leclerc was relegated to 3rd after receiving a 5 second penalty.

The final standings in Japan were Verstappen, Perez and Leclerc while in the Drivers standings, Verstappen leads Perez by 113 points with Leclerc just a point behind in 3rd. The relevance of this is that bookmakers are betting without Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc is now 5/10 favourite with Sergio Perez 15/10 2nd favourite and you can get 66/1 and better the balance.

Verstappen also comes into this race as the defending Champion having beaten home title rival at the time, Lewis Hamilton and teammate Sergio Perez in last year’s renewal. Hamilton has an excellent record at the Circuit of the Americas with 5 wins since the United States Grand Prix resumed in 2012.

Suggested Bet: Lewis Hamilton win at 10/1

Make no mistake, Max Verstappen is a worthy favourite here, but at current prices I have to look for value further down the field. Hamilton hasn’t won this season, but he has had 6 podiums and word is that his team are targeting this race to try and get something out of the season. I have a feeling that we are going to see an improved Lewis Hamilton in America.

Suggested Bet: Points Finish, Lance Stroll at 16/10

Stroll finished just outside the points here in 2021 and he has had points finishes in two of his last four starts one of which was a retirement, that suggests there is a bit of value at the current price.
