BettingDiaryThe next stop of the PGA Tour is The Waste Management Phoenix Open taking place at the TPC Scottsdale course in Arizona and we take a look at the Tournament from a betting angle.

This Tournament is unique in that players need to be able to handle a very vocal crowd particularly on the 16th hole, the famous par 3, where the crowd get very involved particularly on Sunday. Accuracy is more important than length at this course which plays to a par 71 and finding Greens in Regulation has been a fairly reliable pointer to performing well here.

Jon Rahm tops the betting boards at 15/2 and Justin Thomas tucks in behind him in the betting at 12/1 with Patrick Cantlay 14/1 and 16/1 and better the balance.

Selections

Jon Rahm each way at 15/2

I am going to be pretty boring this week because I do think that one of the market leaders is going to win an event where the cream tends to rise to the top. Jon Rahm has excellent recent form with 2 Top 3’s and a Top 15 in his last 3 starts and his course form is also super impressive with 5 consecutive starts seeing him finish between 9th and 16th, although he has never done better than his debut here in 2015 when he was 5th.

Hideki Matsuyama each way at 18/1

Matsuyama was disappointing here last season finishing just outside the Top 40, but he has spectacular course form with 2 victories and two Top 5 finishes to his name. It has been a while since he has been involved at the top end of the leader board down the stretch on a Sunday, but given he won in his penultimate start he has excellent form and this could be the week where he makes it a 3rd win at TPC Scottsdale.

Webb Simpson each way at 40/1

Simpson has been lightly raced this year and he now plays a course where he not only won 2 years ago, but has had a runner-up finish and a couple of 10 finishes in the last decade. Simpson is a quality player who seems to be playing as well as ever despite the fact that he is getting on a bit in years.

Branden Grace each way at 110/1

Grace is not in the best of form and his last start was a missed cut, but at a triple figure price I am willing to throw the South African this week as he has shown a liking for this course, finishing runner-up on debut and Top 10 the year after. He didn’t play last season and let’s hope he can give us South Africans a good interest over the weekend.
