SATURDAY

GOLDEN ARROWS v ORLANDO PIRATES

Golden Arrows currently sit 10th on the table and have only won 1 of their last 9 fixtures. Their last 2 matches have been goalless draws away at Stellenbosch and at home to Swallows.

In the early stages of the season, goals were flowing easily in Arrows matches and at 2.9 goals a game their matches have the second highest average in the Division.

Orlando Pirates are 7th on the log, but also not in the best of form having only won 1 of their last 6 games. Last time out they lost 2-1 to Kaizer Chiefs and 4 of their last 5 games have seen both teams score.

Golden Arrows 12/5

Draw 22/10

Orlando Pirates 5/4

Suggested Bet: The draw at 22/10, Correct Score 0-0 at 27/4

There is seldom much between these sides and 4 of the last 6 games have been drawn. Amazingly all 4 of those games have finished goalless and when we look at Arrows recent fixtures the 27/4 that we don’t get any goals looks worth adding to our main bet which is that the match will be drawn.

CAPE TOWN CITY v MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

Cape Town City are 9th on the table and had won 2 games in a row before they visited AmaZulu last time out where they lost 2-0. They will be looking to become the first side to beat Mamelodi Sundowns this season and for that matter to score against them as Sundowns, who are top of the table by 5 points with a game in hand, have scored 17 goals without conceding in their 9 matches. They have reeled off 7 successive victories, most recently a 4-0 romping over Marumo Gallants on the road.

These sides met in the MTN8 Cup earlier this season with Sundowns winning on penalties to take the trophy. Sundowns did the double last season over Cape Town City winning 3-0 at home and 2-0 on the road.

Cape Town City 11/2

Draw 28/10

Mamelodi Sundowns 4/7

Suggested Bet: Over 2.5 goals at 11/10

The bookmakers are catching on to just how strong Sundowns are and when you consider they were 8/10 to win at Marumo Gallants last time out, I can’t bring myself to back them at current prices. I do think that Cape Town City are capable of scoring against them and that we may get an entertaining game with 3 goals or more.

SUNDAY

MARITZBURG UNITED v KAIZER CHIEFS

Maritzburg United are currently 11th on the table with just 1 win in their last 6 games. They drew 0-0 at Chippa United last time out and prior to that went down 1-0 to Sundowns on the road. Their last home game was a 1-0 victory over TS Galaxy. Maritzburg United’s home games have been low scoring with a total of 4 goals in 4 matches, all 4 delivering profits had you been backing under 2.5 goals.

Kaizer Chiefs have moved up to 6th on the table thanks to 3 wins in their last 4 starts. Last time out they beat Orlando Pirates 2-1 in the Soweto Derby, but they did go down 1-0 at home to Stellenbosch the week before that. Their last away game was a 2-1 win over SuperSport United. Kaizer Chiefs away games have also been low scoring with a total of 7 goals averaging just 1.4 goals per game. Only 1 of Chiefs away matches have reached the 3 goal mark.

Maritzburg United 12/5

Draw 9/4

Kaizer Chiefs 12/10

Suggested Bet: Kaizer Chiefs win at 12/10

Other options in this game include under 2.5 goals, but at 5/10 it is a bit short for me and I am going to back a Kaizer Chiefs team that looks like it is on the up to get 3 points in Maritzburg.
