The winners of this semi final will meet either Stellenbosch or Sekhukhune who contest the other semi on Sunday.

Kaizer Chiefs

Chiefs booked their semi final place with a 2-1 win over Royal AM. The game was locked up at 1-1 at the end of regulation time and Chiefs found the winner from the penalty spot. Chiefs cup run started with a 2-0 win at Maritzburg with both goals coming in extra time and in the following round they edged past minnows Casric Stars 2-1.

Chiefs are currently fourth in the DSTV Premiership with a record of 13 wins, 5 draws and 10 defeats for 44 log points with 2 rounds of matches to play.

Orlando Pirates

Pirates came through their quarter final clash with Dondol Stars in a penalty shoot out after the game finished 1-1 and extra time failed to produce a goal. Earlier they were 2-1 winners over Venda, finding the winner in extra time and they started with a 2-0 win away to Cape Town All Stars.

In the DSTV Premiership Pirates have 15 wins, 5 draws and 8 defeats against their name. They are currently second on the log, 6 points ahead of Chiefs and 2 clear of Supersport in their bid for a top 2 finish and Champions League football next season.

Recent Head to Head

The most recent head to head came in a league game towards the end of February and Chiefs were 1-0 winners thanks to a late own goal.

The first league meeting this season came at the end of October and Chiefs also win it 1-0 thanks to a second half goal from Yusuf Maart.

The Verdict

Chiefs have had the wood over Pirates with 7 wins in the last 10 derby matches across all competitions but the Bucs have been the more consistent side of late, unbeaten since losing to Chiefs at the end of February and as usual, it's a tricky call to name the winner.

Both sides have been sailing close to the wind in getting through previous rounds, perhaps a pointer this game will go beyond regulation time where we might just find a winner and I'm speculating that could be Pirates.
