Brighton

Eighth placed Brighton have played just 31 league matches and with 1, 2 or 3 games in hand on the teams above them they are in with a shout of European football next season. The Europa League or Europa Conference league are the most realistic of their ambitions although if they beat United here they will be 8 points shy of their fourth placed rivals and will still have a game in hand.

On the 23rd of April they lost the FA Cup semi final against United at Wembley on spot kicks after the game failed to produce a goal. Since then a 3-1 defeat in the league at Forest was a blow to their hopes of European football but they bounced back last weekend, demolishing Wolves 6-0 in a home game with 4 of their goal arriving in the first half.

Man United

United have the EFL Cup in the trophy cabinet and the FA Cup final against Manchester City still to come and they are very much in control of their own chances of a top 4 finish and UCL football next season.

They were 1-0 winners at home to Villa last weekend and although they were pegged back for a 2-2 draw at Spurs a week or so ago they have taken 13 points from the last 15 available in the EPL. United are in fourth spot, 2 points behind third placed Newcastle with this game in hand and daylight on fifth placed Liverpool who are in action on Wednesday. After this they still have 3 home games to come (Wolves, Chelsea and Fulham) in addition to 2 more road trips (West Ham and Bournemouth).

Recent Head to Head

Aside from that recent cup semi final the first league meeting between the sides this season took place on the opening weekend and Brighton were 2-1 winners at Old Trafford.

Last season Brighton won this fixture on home turf 4-0.

Brighton are currently even money to win the game with the draw at 29/10 and Man United can be backed at around 5/2

A game of 3 goals or more is priced at 11/20 and it's 5/10 for both teams to score.

Rashford is 6/1 to score the first goal of the game and 31/20 to score anytime

The Verdict:

I expected goals in the FA Cup semi final, with a hindsight a mistake with the occasion perhaps contributing to the stalemate. Still, I would be surprised if this one ended without goals and I'm siding with both halves to produce 2 or more.

Despite cashing in on some of their prize players last season Brighton just keep on finding new talent such as Julio Enciso who looks looks a top drawer player.

However for my anytime goalscorer pick I'm taking a speculative aim at the less subtle talents of Lewis Dunk who is a threat in the air from set pieces
