Southampton 23/5 Draw 17/5 Arsenal 11/20

Southampton have 11 points from the same number of matches and they have given themselves some breathing space in the last 2 rounds with a 1-1 draw at home to West Ham followed by a 1-0 win away at Bournemouth. Their stand out result at home came early in the season when they were 2-1 winners against Chelsea but 2 subsequent home fixtures saw them go down to Manchester United (1-0) and Everton (2-1).

Arsenal were 1-0 winners at Leeds last weekend,a game where their opponents missed a penalty. They were not in midweek action but remain top of the log, 4 points clear of Manchester City with a record of 9 wins and 1 defeat. That sole loss came away to Manchester United but they have won 4 league games and 3 Europa League fixtures since then.

Verdict:

There is very little evidence to suggest Southampton can turn Arsenal over but the Saints have at least found the net in 4 of 5 home games and they might just have a goal in them here.

I'm going to speculate with Sunbet's “pre-packs” market where Arsenal win the game, Jesus scores any time and both sides find the net.

Bets: Pre-pack, both teams to score, Arsenal to win, Jesus to score (all yes) at 19/5

Spurs 21/20 Draw 13/5 Newcastle 13/5

Spurs suffered a second league defeat of the season when they went down 2-0 at Manchester United in midweek. They still finished the round in third spot, 4 points behind Arsenal but they have now played 1 game more than their North London rivals. The return to home turf is a plus as Spurs have won all 5 of their league matches in front of their own supporters this season.

After a 1-0 win at home to Everton in midweek Newcastle are in sixth spot, 5 points behind Spurs having played the same number of matches. Their overall record comprises of 4 wins, 6 draws and their only defeat came at Liverpool where a very late goal saw them go down 2-1. They drew 0-0 at Manchester United in their most recent road trip and they won 4-1 at Fulham recently.

Verdict:

A shade over even money for Spurs to make it 6 wins from 6 home games in the EPL looks attractive at first glance but in case they have a bad day defensively I prefer the goals markets. Although they were way below par at Old Trafford in midweek and Newcastle are in form I'm with Kane and Son to help Conte's side find the net at least twice regardless of whether they win the game or not.

Bets: Total goals by Spurs, over 1.5 at even money
