wolves1819Two more EFL Cup quarter finals take place on Wednesday and our focus is on the clash between Nottingham Forest and Wolves

Forest

Forest have been in the goals in this cup run which started with a 3-0 win away to Grimsby. They dumped Spurs in the following round with a 2-0 home win and in the previous round they made short work of a trip to Championship promotion hopefuls Blackburn, coming away with a 4-1 win.

In the Premier League Forest are now 2 points clear of the drop zone. They have won just 4 league games so far but a 1-0 victory at Southampton recently was a huge 3 points and they have beaten Liverpool on this ground earlier in the season.

Forest crashed out of the FA Cup last weekend, 4-1 at Blackpool although it's worth noting they changed their entire starting line up for that game.

Wolves

Wolves travel for the first time in this cup run. They made home advantage count in beating Preston 2-1, Leeds 1-0 and more recently Gillingham 2-0 and at the weekend they were a touch unlucky not to beat Liverpool in the FA Cup at Anfield, a game which finished 2-2 and will require a replay.

Wolves are second bottom in the Premier League, 3 points adrift of Forest and with just 3 league wins all season. Since the World Cup break they have won 2-1 at Everton, lost 1-0 at home to Manchester United and they also played out a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa.

Wolves beat Forest 1-0 when the teams met in the EPL earlier this season although they needed a penalty save from their keeper to secure a home win.

The Betting:

Forest are currently 17/10 to win the game with the draw at 43/20 and Wolves can be backed at around 37/20

A game of 3 goals or more is priced at 59/50 and it's 8/10 for both teams to score.

The Verdict:

The league table and current form suggests there is little between the sides and they both have big home fixtures coming up in the EPL at the weekend. Wolves fielded a strong side at Liverpool in the FA Cup whilst Forest gave the bulk of their first team players a break and that might just tip the scales in the home sides favour.

The team sheets will tell us more about how the respective coaches view an extended EFL Cup run but the winner here will be one step from Wembley and this might go the full distance.

Still, for a small interest I'll look for a goalscorer at a decent price and Hwang Hee-Chan of Wolves gets my vote.

Bet: Anytime goalscorer Hwang Hee-Chan at 13/4
