Race 1: TARANAKI(11)
Jockey: Sean VEALE - Trainer: Dennis DRIER

A competitive maiden event kicks off the season's first night racemeeting and the in-form Drier yard could again be worth following. The top conditioner's charge TARANAKI had two fair sprints up the Scottsville straight, attracting betting support in both efforts. However, the son of Byword was always going to prefer more ground and his former champion trainer has obliged. Of course it is slightly concerning how the chestnut will fare wearing blinkers for the first time but he clearly has much room for improvement. His good draw is a massive plus.

Race 4: CAPTAIN MOSS(5)
Jockey: Sean VEALE - Trainer: Dennis DRIER

The in-form Drier stable has a lively chance once more as CAPTAIN MOSS will look to build on his promising local and polytrack debut. The injury plagued son of Captain Al stayed on for a much improved six furlong effort last month after returning from a lengthy 33 week absence and he will be fitter this time around. The extra furlong should be right up his alley and the bay gelding has drawn best of all.

Race 5: ROCKET MASTER(5)
Jockey: Gareth WRIGHT- Trainer: Candice BASS-ROBINSON

There was plenty of merit in the veteran Jet Master gelding, ROCKET MASTER's start-to-finish c & d win earlier this campaign and he seems to have escaped with the minimum two pound penalty. There are a few other likely dictators here and the bay may not have to do all the 'donkey' work this time around. He will be cherry-ripe on his third run back from a break and can follow up in a very similar field.

Race 8: KAPEN PRIDE(9)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH- Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

KAPEN PRIDEN is an improving colt who fought hard when narrowly defeated by the smart subsequent winner Brighteyebushytail over a similar trip on the grass track eight weeks ago. The son of Silvano would have come on further during the short absence and he clearly has much scope for progress. He had a fair debut on this course in early winter and is well drawn tonight.

Race 2: GREEN FAIRY(9)
Jockey: Keagan DE MELO - Trainer: Duncan HOWELLS

There are some useful form entrants on show in this highly competitive maiden contest, the formline of which could well be worth following. Last season's KZN champion trainer Duncan Howells has a decent hand with his pairing of GREEN FAIRY and the consistent long-time maiden ROY'S KAITRINA. Of course strong preference is for the former who is the stable elect. She has improved with each of her three runs and though failing to quicken over seven furlongs on the grass last time, she acquitted herself well to finish just over two lengths adrift of some decent types that included subsequent easy winner Champenois.
