TOP BET

Race 2: O' KEEFFE(7)
Jockey:  Akshay BALLOO  - Trainer: Willem A NEL

This is a wide open ten furlong handicap that may lack pace but the lightweight O'KEEFFE can build on her promising recent first try over this distance. She went down narrowly to a game frontrunner that day and the 3rd placed entrant Tiffindell won her subsequent start, albeit in PE. This lightly raced four-year old will strip fitter today and she has huge claims with her apprentice retaining the ride.

Race 5: SAIL SOUTH(2)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE - Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

A top class field has assembled for this Pinnacle Stakes event and despite most of them using this as a prep for the summer season, an exciting finish should be on the cards. The brilliant veteran campaigner CAPTAIN AMERICA is fresh after another successful season after he captured the second Grade 1 win of his career. However, he was denied victory by his stable companion SAIL SOUTH who also bloss- omed during the KZN winter campaign, in the final Grade 1 of the term. The pair have smart c & d records and though the weight reversal doesn't favour the latter, he is expected to pull this off.

Race 7: SOMMERLIED(2)
Jockey:  Sean VEALE- Trainer: Dennis DRIER

The Drier stable holds a decent hand in the day's topliner and SOMMERLIED is the yard's preference. The classy daughter of Var boasts a record of four wins in five starts, including a smart five furlong victory on this course just under one year ago. That said, her only loss also came at this venue when she faded badly and finished downfield but was subsequently rested as something may have gone wrong. She proved her well being back on home turf with two different tactical wins against smart opposition such as subsequent winner Sergeant Hardy and Brutal Force. She should be highly competitive despite her big mass today.

Race 8: EARTH HOUR(4)
Jockey:  Richard FOURIE  - Trainer: Paddy KRUYER

The Paddy Kruyer yard has shown encouraging signs of finding form recently and the usually consistent EARTH HOUR may continue that trend today. This four-year old gelding is seldom beaten far and he has campaigned well in stronger company over this c & d in recent times. It seems as if his conditioner gave him a break during the Durbanville season as all eleven of his lifetime appearances have come on this course. The son of Lateral shed his maiden tag exactly one year ago and his fortunes look set to change.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY

Race 1: CRADLEOFGRATITUDE(5)
Jockey:  Aldo DOMEYER  - Trainer: Candice BASS-ROBINSON

The Black Belt formline has worked out well and CRADLEOFGRATITUDE was below-par when he tired late in the above-mentioned contest. However, the son of What A Winter was returning from a nine week absence and possibly needed the effort. He had a smart penultimate run behind a fair sort and can quickly bounce back here. The bay colt will strip fitter. MERAKI is lightly raced and has progressed smartly with each outing. The inmate from the Ramsden yard ran on well to finish just over one length ahead of the first selection three weeks ago and the imported colt will have more to offer. This pair should be heavily involved in the finish.
