RACE 1

LAUNCH CODE set the pace over 1600m on this course last time, but was outrun late by The Charioteer. His penultimate run when second over this C&D was encouraging. The son of Lancaster Bomber has to contend with the widest draw, but he is likely to use his early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy.

QUIXOTE returns from a 10-week break and is having his first run for the Alan Greeff stable. The son of Querari gets the tongue-tie fitted for the first time and if producing his best Gauteng form, he should be a big runner.

DONNY TEE is having his first run in the Eastern Cape for the Gavin Smith camp. He tries the polytrack and can show good improvement with S’manga Khumalo in the saddle.

RACE 2

TURNTHEBEATAROUND has been disappointing on the Highveld. She returns from an 18-week rest and is having her first run in the Eastern Cape. The daughter of Twice Over finished second in her only attempt over this distance. She does have plenty of scope and S’manga Khumalo may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

SKY VELOCITY produced a decent local debut effort over this distance on the turf. She raced from a handy position and stayed on at the finish. It must be noted that Public Benefit has come out and won again since. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

CAPTIVATE showed some signs of a form return in her last start over 1400m on this course. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day suggests that she will love the rise to the mile. Richard Fourie retains the ride and she can finish in the placings.

RACE 3

This is a competitive Merit Rated 66 Handicap and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is GRAND DESTINY from the Kelly Mitchley stable. He raced from a handy position last time, but was held up for a run at the 400m mark. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from seven starts over this C&D. With a bit of luck in running, he can notch up his second career victory.

EUPHORIC stayed on when third over 1900m on this course last time. He has won once, finished second four times and third three times from eleven starts over this C&D. The 8yo gelding is in a good space and can go close.

HOMER FIDGET finished 0.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.

RACE 4

FAIRY KNIGHT challenged strongly in his last start, but found one too good in the form of Questor. The son of Global View should love the rise to the mile. He is above average and with luck in running, he should take a power of beating.

EL ROMIACHI moved up like a winner, fought hard but was touched off by Matsuyamo last time. He has won three times, finished second twice and third once from eleven starts over this C&D. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and the combination merit healthy respect.

CENTRAL CITY finished 0.25 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line. His wide draw of twelve is an obvious concern, but he cannot be ignored.

RACE 5

BACK FOR MORE produced an encouraging comeback run after 23 weeks off the track. The daughter of Global View would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Despite her big mass of 61kgs, she should be the one to beat.

IQEMBULABESIFAZANE‘S last three starts have been good. Despite the jockey reporting something to be amiss last time, she ran a creditable third. With luck in running from her awkward draw of nine, she should be one of the leading contenders.

ANGELSEA stayed on when fourth over 1200m on the turf last time. She is likely to be settled near the rear of the field from the widest draw and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

Race 6

HASTA LAVISTA BABY was ultra-impressive when winning on debut over 1200m on this course. She set the pace, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Potala Palace takes on stronger, but she could be anything and may be up to the task at hand.

GOLDEN PACIFIC finished 0.75 lengths behind ISN’T IT BLISS last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. S’manga Khumalo steps back into the saddle and she should pose a threat.

ISN‘T IT BLISS was touched off in her last start over this C&D. She received a four-pound penalty for that result. Robert Khathi steps into the saddle and she should run a big race.

RACE 7

CAPTAIN CASANOVA won a good race in his last start over this C&D. He ran on well and won going away. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He steps back up in class, but is in a good space and should be up to the task at hand.

COOL WINTER is an interesting runner as he is the stable elect of the Alan Greeff yard. He flyjumped leaving the start last time, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He jumps from a good draw of two and if getting away to a clean start, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

SPYDAS CORNER returns from an 11-week break which may have done him the world of good. He is better than his recent form suggests. If not in need of the run, he can find a form return.

RACE 8

SIRNIHAALLONGSWORD finished 1.75 lengths behind COOL RUNNINGS last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line. He won his only attempt over this C&D and is unbeaten from two starts under Jabu Jacobs. From pole position, he can return to winning ways.

COOL RUNNINGS won a good race in his last start over 1300m on this course. He received a four-pound penalty for that victory. The 6yo gelding is in a good space and can follow up.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN was running on when second over 1300m last time. Richard Fourie retains the ride and if getting away to a clean start, he should be involved in the fight to the finish
