Winning Form Best Bets

Race 1

POPPY OF BAYEUX is better than her last start as she was reported to be cut into on her right fore. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Her form prior to that outing was good. She gets the blinkers fitted for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand. She gets the services of a 4kgs claiming apprentice and can shed her maiden tag.

FLAG OF WREN may not have seen out the mile in her last start on the turf. Her penultimate run when finishing second over this C&D catches the eye. She jumps from a good draw of four and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

CARNELIAN BAY showed some improvement in her comeback run over 1000m on this course. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight will love the rise in distance and the blinkers should have the desired effect. She should strip much fitter and may have more to come.

Race 2

PRINCEKRESH is a winner of his last three starts. He returns from a 12-week break which may have done him the world of good. He gets the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Mfanelo Zuma and if not in need of the run, he may be the one to beat.

COLDHARDCASH is much better than his last start as he was reported to be coughing. He has won three times and finished third twice from six starts over this C&D. His best form has been under Muzi Yeni and the pair merit healthy respect.

HERECOMESTHERAIN ran a decent race when finishing second over 1200m on this course, three weeks ago. The drop back to 1000m is a slight concern, but he is in a good space and will be staying on at the finish.

Race 3

ETHIOPIAN QUEEN followed up her maiden win with a decent fourth-place finish over this distance on the turf. She raced from a handy position that day and stayed on nicely at the finish. The daughter of What A Winter has plenty of scope and with just 54kgs on her back, she may be the one to side with.

LADY LEGEND has good recent form lines to her credit. Two of her four career victories have come on this course. The daughter of Captain Of All may be at her best over further, but she is in a good space and cannot be ignored.

NIKIYA ran on strongly last time, but found one too good in the form of Varvacious. She has won once and finished third twice from seven starts over this C&D. The 6yo mare should strip a much fitter horse this afternoon and merits healthy respect.

Race 4

EVENTIDOR was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1400m on the turf. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. His debut effort, when finishing his race off strongly over 1400m on this course catches the eye. The son of Elusive Fort will be at home over the 1900m and in this type of field, he can shed his maiden tag.

GIANTS CASTLE’S last start can be ignored as he was reported to be cut into and not striding out. It must be noted that Bugsy Malone has come out and won again since. He will enjoy the step up in distance and should strip a much fitter horse.

HEAD GARDENER may not have seen out the 2300m. His penultimate run when finishing third over this C&D was encouraging. Muzi Yeni steps back into the saddle and he should be competitive.

Race 5

MASTER TOBE finished 0.3 lengths behind CALGARY last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line. He cast a shoe in running last time, which didn’t help his chances. Despite carrying a big mass of 61.5kgs, he can go one better in this line-up.

CALGARY won a good race in his last start over 1600m on this course. Despite clipping heels at the 1300m mark, he won well. The son of Futura should have no issues with the 1700m and with a bit of luck in running, he can follow up.

FLYING VISION set the pace last time over 1600m, but had to ease in the latter stages. He is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. The son of Visionaire takes a drop in class today and may be hard to peg back.

Race 6

HIGH VELOCITY was settled at the rear of the field in his last start over 1600m and finished his race off well. The son of Elusive Fort has dropped to a competitive rating and will enjoy the extra distance on offer. He takes a drop in class and may be the one to cause the upset.

FISTS OF FIRE should have won last time as his pilot dropped his crop in the latter stages. He has finished second once and third once from three starts over this C&D. He does have the widest draw to overcome, but Donovan Dillon knows him well and he should give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

LIVING WATERS took on stronger in his last start. He has won once and finished third once from as many attempts over this C&D. The son of Wylie Hall takes a drop in class and with a bit of luck from his wide draw, he should be competitive.

Race 7

WISHFUL GIRL LINN has had the perfect preparation coming into this contest. She has won three times and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. The daughter of Linngari should be cherry-ripe this afternoon and with a bit of luck from her awkward draw, she can return to winning ways.

TIME TO ROLL won a good race in her last start over this C&D. She has won once, finished second twice and third once from five starts over the mile. The daughter of Jackson takes a rise in class, but she is in a good space and should be up to the task at hand.

PURPLE PERSUASION’S last two starts have been fair. She finished third in her only attempt over this C&D. Donovan Dillon retains the ride this afternoon and the pair will be staying on at the finish.

Race 8

FANTASTIC IMPACT has finished second in his last two starts over this C&D. He raced from a handy position last time and stayed on nicely at the finish. He does have the widest draw of eleven to overcome, but gets the services of Keagan de Melo who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

PROTEA PRIDE is much better than his last start as the jockey went way too fast up front. His penultimate run when finishing second over this C&D catches the eye. If ridden with a bit more restraint, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

LUCK OF THE IRIS is a filly taking on the males. Her last two starts over further have been decent. She gets the blinkers re-fitted this afternoon and should give the males a run for their money
