Race 1

RED SOLE is much better than his last start suggests as he was reported to be cut into on his right fore leg. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He has finished second twice from as many starts on this course. The son of Master Of My Fate is having his peak run today and can shed his maiden tag.

SPECIALLY SELECTED has been costly to follow, but has good consistent form lines to his credit. He tries the 1400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

LAKE COMO ran a creditable race in his last start over this distance on the turf. He raced wide around the turn, but stayed on nicely at the finish. He should strip a much fitter horse and must be included in all bets.

Race 2

PICARA has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. She has finished second twice and third once from six starts over this distance. She tries the Polytrack for the first time and if suited to the surface, she may be the horse to beat. She is carded to race on 10 April 2022 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

ADDIENA has shown good improvement in each of her outings to date. She should have won last time as she shifted away from the crop in the closing stages. If suited to the surface, she should be one of the leading contenders.

ADITI stayed on at the finish when third over 1000m on the turf last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She will love the rise to 1200m and should give her older rivals a run for their money.

Race 3

PRAY FOR RAIN is the best bet on the programme. He stayed on at the finish over 1000m last time. He has won once and finished second once from three starts on this course. He takes a drop in class and is the best-weighted runner in this contest. He runs well for jockey Athandiwe Mgudlwa and from pole position, he should take a power of beating.

GIACOMO PUCCINI has good consistent form lines to his credit. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from five starts over this distance. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

SILVANO’S TIMER is returning from a lengthy 68-week break. The lightly-raced son of Silvano has ability and is well weighted in this contest. He may need the run, but he has the class to give a good account of himself.

Race 4

This is a competitive Merit Rated 75 Handicap and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is QUANT MASTER from the Peter Muscutt stable. He ran a creditable race when finishing third against stronger company over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He has won once, finished second three times and third once from nine starts over this distance. He takes a drop in class and from his good draw of four, he may be the one to side with.

MAJORCA PALACE took on stronger company in his last start over this C&D. He returns from a short 10-week break which may have done him the world of good. He drops in class and merits healthy respect.

PHINDA MZALA ran a good race when finishing third over this C&D last time. He showed speed, but was caught in the shadow of the post. From pole position, he may be hard to peg back.

Race 5

FEVER showed good signs of a form return in his last start over this C&D. He has won three times and finished third once from seven starts over this C&D. He meets a similar type of field this afternoon and can return to winning ways.

COROMANDEL won a good race in his last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He steps back up to the 2000m and with Anton Marcus in the saddle, he merits obvious inclusion.

TALES OF US was his own worst enemy last time as he overraced in the early stages. It must be noted that Roy’s Command has come out and won again since. He is having his second run after a rest and should strip a much fitter horse.

Race 6

GALABIER was an easy winner of his last start over this C&D. He set the pace, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. He received a five-pound penalty for that victory and against similar company, he can follow up.

HEY BILL finished 1.3 lengths behind DEEP GLOBAL last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them where it matters most.

DEEP GLOBAL won a good race in his last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. If Mfanelo Zuma is able to keep him on a straight line, he should have a good winning chance.

Race 7

ROY’S COMMAND has been impressive in his last three victories on this course. He was carried outwards at the 1300m mark last time, but the manner in which he ran on at the finish was eye-catching. He received another five-pound penalty for that victory, but may still be ahead of the handicapper and he can notch up his sixth career victory.

ETIQUETTE won a good race in his last start over 1700m on this course. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He returns from a well-deserved 10-week break and if not in need of the run, he should be competitive.

VALENCIA ran a good race when finishing 1.3 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. However, ROY’S COMMAND won a lot easier than the official margin suggests and he may still have the upper hand.

Race 8

DEMIGOD followed up her maiden victory with a good third-place finish over 1600m on this course. She finished 0.4 lengths behind LUNA ECLIPSE that day. She is 5.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She has plenty of scope and from her good draw of two, she may be the horse to beat.

BINGIN BEACH is the stable companion of the top choice. She lost a length at the start in her last outing but stayed on to finish third. It must be noted that Purple Nkanyezi has come out and won again since. She should strip a much fitter horse today and merits healthy respect.

DAWNOFANEWDAY has good consistent form lines to her credit. She is having her first run in KZN and if suited to the Polytrack, she should go close to winning
