Race 1
MADISON BLUES ran a good race when third in his stable debut over this distance on the turf. The son of Vercingetorix has been gelded since that outing which may have done the trick. Keagan de Melo retains the ride and if not in need of the run, he may be rewarded for consistency.
SHOEFELLA raced from a handy position over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time, but was outrun late by Bronze Sword. He is having his peak run and will be cherry-ripe. Jockey S’manga Khumalo takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
NATYAM showed good improvement in his last start over this distance on the turf. He returns from a 19-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. If not in need of the run, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 2
LA PRESTISSIMO is the best bet on the programme. She should have finished closer to the winner in her last start as she hung and shifted away from the crop in the closing stages. The daughter of Capetown Noir will love the step up to 1400m and if keeping on a straight line, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
LOTS OF MAGIC showed improvement in her last start over 1200m on this course. The daughter of Willow Magic has scope and if not in need of this outing, she should pose a threat.
VERMACILLI stayed on at the finish over this C&D last time, but found one too good in the form of Imperious Destiny. Serino Moodley retains the ride and with a bit of luck in running, she can earn another cheque for her patrons.
Race 3
IMBEWU finished 1.5 lengths behind PALM BREEZE last time. She is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She is having her second run after a rest and will strip much fitter. From her good draw of three, she may be the one to side with.
PALM BREEZE stayed on when third over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. She tries the Polytrack for the first time and if suited to the surface, she should be one of the leading contenders. CORNER CRUSADE fought hard in her last start before the 27-week break. She has won once, finished second five times and third once from eight starts over this C&D. If not in need of the run, she can notch up her second career victory.
Race 4
SEA VISTA finished 0.25 lengths behind BLESS ME FRED last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He won his maiden on this course, under 1.5kgs claiming apprentice Siphesihle Hlengwa. He is versatile and with a bit of luck in running, he can notch up his third career victory.
BLESS ME FRED is the stable companion of the top choice. He showed good guts when winning his last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. The son of Global View will be mowing down the frontrunners.
THE GLIDING FISH won a good race in his stable debut over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. The drop to 1000m should not pose a concern as he finished third in his only attempt over this distance. Keagan de Melo retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.
Race 5
JUSTFORTHEEPENNY should have finished closer to the winner last time as he was squeezed and had to be eased at the 100m mark. The 6yo gelding has dropped from a merit rating of 91 to 55. He jumps from a good draw of four and if getting away to a clean start, he can return to winning ways.
GUISEPPI’S SONG ran on powerfully when winning his last start over 1400m on this course. He steps up to the 1800m and against similar company, he can follow up.
BLAZING LIGHT showed good guts when winning his last start over 1900m on this course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. Apprentice Rachel Venniker takes the 1.5kgs off his back and he may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.
Race 6
MY CHERIE AMOUR finished 1.05 lengths behind EYE CATCHING last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The daughter of Canford Cliffs is likely to be switched off near the rear of the field from her awkward draw of eight and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
YOU DESERVE IT finished 1.2 lengths behind TWO MINDS last time. She is 3kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She is a better horse on this surface and should be one of the leading contenders.
EYE CATCHING didn’t settle in her last start over 1900m, but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. Her best form has been on this course and with 54.5kgs on her back, she cannot be ignored.
Race 7
PREEMPTIVE STRIKE finished 0.55 lengths behind QUIZ MASTER last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He jumps from pole position and can return to winning ways.
QUIZ MASTER ran a good race when fourth over 1200m on this course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He won a good race in his penultimate start over this C&D and may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.
PURPLE POWAHOUSE finished 0.1 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line. He would have come on from the run and will strip a much fitter horse.
Race 8
CRESTED EAGLE was not beaten far against stronger company in his last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. The jockey reported something to be amiss in running that day. He takes a drop in class and from his good draw of two, he is capable of returning to winning ways.
WHITE CEDAR won a good race in his last start over 1200m on this course. Four of his five career victories have come over this C&D. He is likely to have his own way in front from pole position and may be hard to catch.
WINTER WAVES has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. It must be noted that the form of his last start has been franked. He is drawn widest of all, but gets the services of Keagan de Melo who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle
