This is a weak Qualified Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is GUISEPPI’S SONG from the MJ Odendaal stable with Warren Kennedy in the saddle. Despite having to ease at the 1200m mark last time, he stayed on nicely at the finish. The son of Oratorio is having his second run since the gelding. He should strip a much fitter horse and may be the one to side with.

GUY FOX was his own worst enemy last time as he overraced in the early stages. His two efforts prior to that outing were good. If Ashton Arries is able to switch him off early, he should pose a threat.

STORY BOOK showed very good improvement in his last start over this C&D. If repeating that effort this afternoon, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

 

Race 2

KNIGHT WARRIOR produced a decent comeback run over 1200m on this course. The manner in which he finished off his race that day was encouraging. The 5yo gelding takes a slight drop in class and should strip fitter. Richard Fourie takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

BRANDENBURG finished 0.95 lengths behind HIGHER PURPOSE last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.

HIGHER PURPOSE was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over this C&D. He meets a similar type of field today and merits healthy respect.

 

Race 3

ODEN showed some signs of a form return over 1200m on the turf last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. The 6yo gelding takes a big drop in class and on best form shown, he can cause the upset.

FOREST JUMP showed very good improvement in his last start over this C&D. That was his first outing with the tongue-tie and ear muffs fitted. He should strip a much fitter horse this afternoon and is one of the leading contenders.

WHITE CEDAR finished 0.1 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.

 

Race 4

CAPTAIN TATTERS has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He was far from disgraced when finishing fourth in the Grade 1 Golden Horse Sprint last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He is the best weighted runner in this contest and should take a power of beating.

SIR MICHAEL has good recent form lines to his credit. He has won once, finished second once and third once from as many starts over this distance. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

GIACOMO PUCCINI is the stable companion of the top choice. It must be noted that Irish Tractor has come out and won again since. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from five starts over this distance. If not in need of the run, he should give a good account of himself.

 

Race 5

FLOWER OF SAIGON was running on well when finishing third over 1600m in the Listed Off To Stud Stakes last time. The daughter of Flower Alley will love the extra furlong on offer. She is the best weighted runner in this contest and should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

BLUE PLANET finished strongly when second to Black Thorn last time. It is encouraging that Richard Fourie retains the ride and the pair merit obvious inclusion.

MAGICAL MIDLANDS is the stable companion of the top choice. He is much better than his last two starts suggest. It is no surprise that the blinkers have been removed and on best form shown, he should give a good account of himself.

 

Race 6

YOU DESERVE IT has returned to form in her last three starts, the latest of which was over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Pathfork takes a drop in class and with Richard Fourie in the saddle, she may be the one to beat.

IZHIESTIA’S last two starts over 1950m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville have been decent. She takes a drop in class and jumps from a good draw of three. The 5yo mare should be one of the leading contenders.

WINTERTIME is the stable companion of the second choice. She has taken on male company in her last four starts. She jumps from a mid-field draw and back against her own sex, she should give a good account of herself.

 

Race 7

ICE IMPERIAL finished 1.8 lengths behind TUPELO HONEY last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The Dennis Drier stable has returned to form in recent meetings. She should strip a much fitter horse and from her good draw of two, can notch up her second career victory.

FLYING FIRST CLASS won a good race in her last start over 1700m on this course. She takes a slight rise in class, but is in a good space and should be up to the task at hand.

EAGER DUCHESS ran a good race when finishing second over this C&D last time. The daughter of Duke Of Marmalade takes a drop in class and with a bit of luck from her wide draw, she should be competitive.

 

Race 8

GIANTS CASTLE was unlucky not to have won his last start as he had to switch at the 250m mark. The manner in which he finished his race off that day was eye-catching. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride and with a bit of luck in running, the combination should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.

DON’T TOUCH ME produced a typical second run after a rest last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. The son of Var should be cherry-ripe and with Muzi Yeni in the saddle, he should go close.

MYSTIC MASTER has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He gets the blinkers removed for this outing and will be staying on at the business end
