Race 1

FIRE TONIC made the expected natural improvement when finishing second in his last start over this distance on the turf. The manner in which he ran on at the finish that day was encouraging. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. The son of Wylie Hall is a progressive type and is the horse to beat from barrier three.

ACTION TIME showed very good improvement when finishing second over this distance on the turf last time. He set the pace, fought hard but found one too good in the form of Caramel Fudge. It is a slight concern that the blinkers have been removed for this outing. With a bit of luck in running, he should pose a massive threat.

ALFATORIO finished 4.8 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.

Race 2

BARBATTI has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He stayed on at the finish over 1400m last time, but found one too good in the form of Allaroundtheworld. The son of Capetown Noir steps back up to the mile and in this type of field, he should take a power of beating.

BRAINWAVE showed good improvement in his last start over 1200m on this course. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will love the rise to the mile. He is having his peak run this afternoon and will be cherry-ripe.

L’ULTIMO’S last four starts have been fair. He finished third in his only attempt over this C&D, three runs ago. Apprentice Donald Geerthsen takes the 2.5kgs off his back and he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 3

CAESURA ran a good race when finishing second in his last start over 1800m on the turf. The manner in which he finished off his race that day was encouraging. He has won three times and finished second once from seven starts over this C&D. Rachel Venniker takes the 1.5kgs off his back and he can go one better.

BRANDENBURG is better than his last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. His previous form was encouraging. He is likely to have his own way in front from barrier three and is one of the leading contenders.

CAPETOWN AFFAIR set the pace and stayed on to finish third over 1400m on this course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He carries a handy galloping mass of 54kgs and should be competitive.

Race 4

CHELSEA FLOWER finished 1.8 lengths behind DANSE MILORD last time. She is 3kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She has won twice and finished third once from seven starts on this course. From her good draw of two, she can return to winning ways.

YOU DESERVE IT has run three decent races for the Gary Rich stable. She stayed on when fourth over 1600m on the turf last time. The 5yo mare won her only attempt over this C&D and with 4kgs claiming apprentice Siyanda Sosibo in the saddle, she may be hard to peg back.

RISE has taken on male company in her last two starts. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish in both those efforts was encouraging. She is back against her own sex and must be included in all bets.

Race 5

PURPLE NKANYEZI’S last three starts have been fair. She has won four times and finished second three times from ten starts over this C&D. The 6yo mare takes a drop in class and gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Siphesihle Hlengwa. The Garth Puller stable is in fine form and she can notch up her seventh career victory.

WARSHIP hails from the visiting Candice Dawson stable. She ran a good race when third over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course last time. The daughter of Coup De Grace won her only attempt over this C&D. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

WINTER’S DESTINY was ultra-impressive when winning her last start over this distance on the turf. She received the maximum eight-pound penalty for that victory. She is in a very good space and can notch up the hat-trick.

Race 6

ONE TOO MANY finished 1.3 lengths behind VALIENTE last time. He is 5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He has won twice and finished second once from seven starts over this C&D. The son of What A Winter shows good speed in his races and may be hard to peg back.

HOOVES OF TROY has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He has won once and finished second five times from eight starts over this distance. If keeping on a straight line, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

HOPE IS POWER ran a decent race when third over 1200m on this course last time. He set the pace and stayed on at the finish. Both his career victories have come over this distance and he should run a big race.

Race 7

PATRONAGE’S last three starts have been good. He should have finished closer to the winner last time as his pilot dropped her reins in the closing stages. He has won four times, finished second once and third twice from eleven starts over this C&D. The son of Philanthropist takes a drop in class and he can return to winning ways.

AL’S MY DADDY finished 1.45 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line.

BLACKWHITEDYNAMITE ran a fair race in his last start on the turf. He has won three times and finished third once from six starts over this C&D. The son of What A Winter races well fresh and with the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Malesela Katjedi, he should run a big race.

Race 8

ROYAL KITTY finished 3.3 lengths behind ZINIKELE last time. She is 6.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She has won twice, finished second four times and third three times from fourteen starts over this C&D. She carries a handy galloping mass of 53kgs and should be involved in the fight to the finish.

ZINIKELE followed up her maiden victory with an equally impressive win over this C&D. She ran on well and drew clear of the opposition. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight takes another rise in class, but she has ability and can notch up the hat-trick.

FORGED IN ICE finished 0.4 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 2kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around
