Race 1

Nine of the twelve runners in this contest are unraced and the betting market will be the best guide with regards to their chances. I LIKE IT HOT is an unraced daughter of What A Winter from the Dennis Drier yard with stable jockey Sean Veale in the saddle. She is related to multiple Grade 1 winner, Via Africa. If not too green, she should get her career off to a positive start.

WILL O ME ran a fair race on debut, finishing 2.6 lengths behind the winner. It must be noted that the horse that finished fifth that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Willow Magic would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be competitive.

LADY CHOCOLAT was bumped at the start on debut and never got into the race. She gets the services of Richard Fourie and should make the natural progression.

Race 2

READY TO FLY produced a promising debut effort over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course. She understandably raced green, but the manner in which she finished her race off was eye-catching. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight would have gained from the experience and should love the extra furlong on offer. If not too green on her course debut, she should be the horse to beat.

BROADWAY GIRL ran a good race on debut over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. She would have come on with the outing and should make the natural progression.

VIRGINIA SWEET showed improvement when finishing third over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. She raced from a handy position and stayed on at the finish. She is drawn widest of all once again and with a bit of luck, should fight out the finish.

Race 3

TOTALLY ROCKS was very unlucky not to have won her last start over 1000m on this course. She was slow into stride, awkwardly placed at the 300m mark and thereafter took time to get balanced. The daughter of Canford Cliffs will love the extra furlong on offer and if jumping on terms, she should shed her maiden tag.

WINTER JOURNEY has finished second in her last four starts. She was unlucky last time as she was carried inwards at the 50m mark. She shows good speed in her races and may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line. REGINAS ANGEL’S last two starts have been decent. She was reported to be not striding out last time. She does have a wide draw, but should use her early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy.

Race 4

SLURRICANE produced a promising debut effort over this distance on the Polytrack. He lost a length at the start and finished his race off strongly despite hanging in the straight. The son of Vercingetorix would have come on with the run and from his good draw of four, he should be the horse to beat.

FLOREANA ISLAND showed good speed in the Workriders Vs Jockeys Challenge last time, but was outrun late. She will enjoy the drop back to 1000m and if all went well with her travels, she should give the males a run for their money.

NDAKA has consistent form lines to his credit. He was reported to have a sore back in his last start. He gets the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Donald Geerthsen which will help his cause. He may be hard to peg back.

Race 5

IN THE SUMMERTIME showed improvement when finishing second over this C&D. The manner in which he finished off his race that day was encouraging. The son of Noble Tune is a progressive type and from his handy draw of five, he should go close to winning.

FORWARD SPELL was doing his best work late when finishing fifth in his comeback run over 1400m at Turffontein. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He should strip much fitter and from pole position, will pose a big threat to the top choice.

WORD FOR WORD was running on when finishing second over 1400m on the Polytrack. The son of Flying The Flag will be at home over the mile and if not in need of the run, he should give a good account of himself.

Race 6

SHE’S A KEEPER showed signs of needing her run in the Grade 1 Empress Club Stakes. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won a Grade 2 since. She won over this C&D in the Grade 2 Gold Bracelet last year. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight takes a drop in class and will strip fitter. She can return to winning ways.

LYRICAL DANCE went from start to finish when winning the Listed Scarlet Lady last time. She finished second in her only attempt over this trip. She is likely to have her own way in front once again and merits healthy respect.

ONLY THE BRAVE finished 1.6 lengths behind LYRICAL DANCE last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line.

Race 7

DO IT AGAIN lost two lengths at the start in the Grade 1 Cape Town Met last time, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. He has won five times and finished third three times from eleven starts on this course. He is returning from a well-deserved 15-week break and if not in need of the run, he should be the horse to beat.

LITIGATION set the pace in his last start over 1600m, but was outrun late. He will enjoy the rise to 1900m and with just 52kgs on his back, he should run a big race.

MOUNT ANDERSON won a good race in the Listed The Sledgehammer last time. The manner in which he quickened up and drew clear of the opposition was eye-catching. He would have come on since the run and must be included in all bets.

Race 8

ARTIC TUNE ran a fair race in his comeback run over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He raced from a handy position and stayed on at the finish. He has won twice and finished second once from four starts on this course. The son of Noble Tune takes a drop in class and will strip much fitter. S’manga Khumalo takes the ride and he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

SUPER SILVER was reported to be not striding out in his last start on the Highveld. He returns from a 13-week break and returns to the Mike Miller yard. He is a horse with ability and returns to his favourite course. If not in need of the run, he should go close.

TABEBUIA was his own worst enemy in the Grade 1 SA Derby last time as he overraced in the early stages. His penultimate effort in the Listed Derby Trial was encouraging. He will enjoy the drop in trip and with Warren Kennedy in the saddle, he should go close to winning.

Race 9

This is a competitive Pinnacle Stakes field and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is BATTLE FORCE who is making his debut for the Peter Muscutt stable. He has won four times and finished second once from six starts over this distance. He comes into this contest well-weighted and if not in need of the run, he should be the one to beat.

AL SAKEET has been disappointing in his last two starts. He returns from a 22-week break which may have done him the world of good. He ran a very good race when finishing second over this C&D in the Grade 1 Mercury Sprint, three runs ago. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

TEMPTING FATE’S last two starts have been good. It must be noted that the horse that finished second in his last outing has come out and won since. He has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this C&D. He should be cherry-ripe and cannot be ignored.

Race 10

FATEFUL DAY has good consistent form lines to his credit. He stayed on nicely at the finish when third over 1600m at Turffontein last time. He has won once and finished third once from three starts on this course. The son of Master Of My Fate runs well for apprentice Rachel Venniker and he may be the horse to side with.

VOLDEMORT showed good signs of a form return in his last start over this distance on the Polytrack. It must be noted that Ideal Act has come out and won again since. He should be cherry-ripe and will be staying on at the finish.

SPY MASTER followed up his maiden victory with a good second-place finish over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He should have no issues with the drop to 1400m and has plenty of scope
