Race 1

This is a weak Maiden Handicap and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is COTTON RON from the Lorenzo Karriem stable. He ran a fair race when second in his last start over this C&D. He set the pace that day, but found one too good in the form of Captain Rocket. He is likely to have his own way in front from barrier three and may be hard to peg back.

VIVIR MI VIDA’S last two starts have been decent, the latest of which was over this C&D. Muzi Yeni steps into the saddle and she should give the males a run for their money.

FIRE TONIC was disappointing in his last start over 1400m on the turf. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. His two efforts prior to that outing were good. The tongue-tie has been removed and with Sean Veale in the saddle, he should be competitive.

Race 2

SKY CAFE stayed on when second over this distance on the turf last time. She is having her peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. The daughter of Toreador is suited to this surface and can shed her maiden tag in this line-up.

STEALTH ATTACK raced from a handy position over 1600m last time and stayed on to finish fourth. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She should have no issues with the drop to 1400m. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

TASTE MAKER’S last two starts have been fair. She steps up to the 1400m and is capable of earning a cheque in this field. She is carded to race on 15 January 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

Race 3

CRAZY BLUES was her own worst enemy over this distance on the turf last time as she over raced in the early stages. It must be noted that Monashada has come out and won again since. She has won twice, finished second once and third three times from nine starts on this course. The daughter of William Longsword takes a drop in class and she can notch up her fourth career victory.

LUNA ECLIPSE showed good guts when winning her last start over 1600m on this course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She is likely to adopt the same tactics and may be hard to peg back.

KINGSMEADS KRYSTL ran on from last when winning her last start over 1200m on the turf. She has won twice and finished second once from five starts over this C&D. She is likely to be switched off near the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners from the widest draw.

Race 4

CRESTED EAGLE was not beaten far in his last start over this distance on the turf. He lost a length at the start and was reported to be coughing that day. The son of Crusade runs well for Rachel Venniker and if jumping on terms, he is capable of returning to winning ways.

COUNT MARSH has top consistent form lines to his credit. It must be noted that the form of his last outing has been franked. He finished 1.6 lengths behind the top choice, three runs ago. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

HIGH VELOCITY was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over 1200m on this course. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from seven starts over this C&D. 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Siphesihle Hlengwa retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 5

BLACKWHITEDYNAMITE raced from a handy position over 1200m last time, fought hard but found one too good in the form of Justaguything. He has won three times, finished second once and third once from seven starts over this C&D. 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Malesela Katjedi steps back into the saddle and theson of What A Winter can go one better.

PREEMPTIVE STRIKE was running on when third over 1200m on this course last time. He has finished second twice and third once from four starts over this C&D. He is in a good space and should pose a massive threat.

SON OF SILK ran a good race when second over this C&D last time. He is having his peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. From pole position, he should go close to winning.

Race 6

This is a weak Merit Rated 65 Handicap and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is MISS LIALAH from the Garth Puller stable. She is better than her last start over 1400m on this course. Her penultimate run when finishing fourth over 1800m on this course, was encouraging. If not too far out of her ground turning for home, she may be the one to beat.

QUIZ MASTER ran a good race when third over 1400m on this course last time. He finished second in his only attempt over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff her lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

RAVENS SWORD had excuses in his first run out of the maidens. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. The son of William Longsword returns from a 13-week break and if fit, he should be hard to peg back.

Race 7

FUNKY MUSIC was not beaten far in his last start over 1200m on this course. He raced from a handy position and stayed on at the finish. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from six starts over this distance. He has dropped to a competitive rating and in this line-up, he may be the one to side with.

TEICHMAN stayed on when third over this distance on the turf last time. He has won once and finished second three times from six starts over this C&D. He takes a slight drop in class and will be staying on at the finish.

ACTION STATIONS’ last two starts have been fair. He has won once, finished second once and third twice from eight starts on this course. He has cracked a good draw of two and with Keagan de Melo in the saddle, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 8

STRAIGHT UP should have finished closer to the winner last time as he received a bump at the 350m mark. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Five of his six career victories have come on this course. Sean Veale takes the ride and with a bit of luck, he can return to winning ways.

QUESTION MASTER lost a length at the start last time, but ran on strongly to get the better of Rodriguez. He received a four-pound penalty for that victory. He jumps from a good draw of two and merits healthy respect.

GUISEPPI’S SONG got going too late when finishing second over 1600m on the turf last time. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will be suited to the 1900m. The son of Oratorio will strip a much fitter horse today and he can go one better
