Race 1
This is a weak Qualified Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is WITHOUT DOUBT from the Frank Robinson yard. His last three starts before being given a 26-week break were decent. He finished third in his only attempt over this C&D. If not in need of the run, he should take a power of beating in this type of field.
FIRU STAR was in need of his comeback run over 1400m on this course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He would have come on from the run and should strip a much fitter horse.
SHESAKINDA MAGIC is better than her last three starts suggest. It must be noted that the horse that finished third in her last outing has come out and won since. She is suited to this course and can find a form return.
Race 2
PLAYER was not disgraced when finishing sixth against winners in his last start over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. He should have no issues with the rise to 1800m and will be cherry-ripe. Back in Maiden Company, he should be the horse to beat.
ATLANTIC CITY’S last two starts have been fair. He has shown improvement since the fitting of the blinkers and from pole position, may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
TOMMY THE KIDD showed some signs of a form return in his last start over 2000m on this course. Serino Moodley retains the ride and he can run into the placings.
Race 3
BANHA BRIDGE moved up like a winner in his last start over this distance at Turffontein, but his pilot dropped his reins in the closing stages. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts on this course. He has dropped to a competitive rating and with Keagan de Melo back in the saddle, he may be the one to side with.
IMMEASURABLE has finished second in his last two starts on this course. He finished 1.55 lengths behind the top choice, three runs ago. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
THUNDER MASALA finished 1.15 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.
Race 4
BOLDLY GO has decent consistent form lines to her credit. She stayed on when fourth over this C&D against stronger company last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The daughter of Bold Silvano takes a drop in class and can notch up her fourth career victory.
BAUBLES AND BEADS is much better than her last start in the Grade 1 Allan Robertson Championship. She won on debut with ease over this C&D. The 13-week break would have done her the world of good and if not in need of the run, she should make a winning return.
FLASHY KAITRINA is better than her last start on the turf. She is at her best when given a chance and allowed to do her best work at the finish. Her two previous victories were encouraging and she cannot be ignored.
Race 5
SAMUEL SALT ran a decent race when fourth over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course last time. He was reported to be coughing that day. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He returns to the Polytrack and if all went well with his travels, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
FATHER’S FROST stayed on when fifth over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He finished second in his penultimate run over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
PARMENION won a good race when shedding his maiden over 1400m on this course last time. He does take on stronger, but has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.
Race 6
This is a competitive Merit Rated 76 Handicap and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is JUSTAGUYTHING from the Gavin van Zyl yard. He has won three times, finished second once and third twice from twelve starts over this C&D. His last victory came under Rachel Venniker and he should be the one to beat.
MAJORCA PALACE finished 2.4 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.
KNIGHT WARRIOR should have finished closer to the winner on the turf last time as he hung in the closing stages. He has won twice, finished second twice and third once from ten starts over this C&D. His last victory came under Muzi Yeni and the pair merit obvious inclusion.
Race 7
HIGHER PURPOSE showed very good improvement in his first run for the Kumaran Naidoo stable. He set the pace before getting caught late by The Bayou. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The blinkers seem to have done the trick on the son of Vercingetorix and he can return to winning ways.
HIPPOCRATES ran a fair race in his last start on the turf. He won a good race in his penultimate start over 1200m on this course. He jumps from a good draw of three and is one of the leading contenders.
CAPETOWN AFFAIR finished 2.5 lengths behind the second choice in his penultimate run. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line.
Race 8
COUNT MARSH’S last three starts have been good. He raced wide in the early part of the race last time before setting the pace and was caught in the shadow of the post by Valencia. He meets a similar type of field today and can go one better with Keagan de Melo in the irons.
WHITE CEDAR finished 2.4 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
QUEST FOR THE BEST is better than his last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. With a bit of luck in running, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest
