TOP BET FOR TODAY

Race 2: LEGITIMATE (11)
Jockey: De Melo K - Trainer: Kannemeyer D

LEGITIMATE is the best bet on the day. He produced two good runs on the polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville. He returns from a 10-week break today, during which time he was gelded. The son of Dynasty should be better suited to the turf and if jumping on terms, should take a power of beating.

Race 3: GAINSFORD (1)
Jockey: Domeyer A - Trainer: Marshall V

GAINSFORD was ultra-impressive when winning over this C&D last time. He raced from just off the pace that day and won a lot easier than the official margin suggests. It must be noted that the form line of that race has worked out well. The son of Gimmethegreenlight makes his handicap debut, but he is lightly raced and may be up to the task at hand.

Race 4: RUN FOX RUN (3)
Jockey: Orffer C - Trainer: Crawford B

RUN FOX RUN ran a very good race in the Grade 1 SA Fillies Sprint last time. She challenged strongly all the way to the line, but was caught in the shadow of the post. The daughter of Foxwedge has won six times from seven starts on this course. If not in need of this run, she should take a power of beating.

Race 5: REX UNION (4)
Jockey: V.Niekerk G - Trainer: Kannemeyer D

REX UNION followed up his maiden win with a decent fourth-place finish over a mile at Durbanville last time. He lost a length at the start that day, but finished his race off well. The well-bred son of Duke Of Marmalade meets a similar type of field this afternoon and he should notch up his second career victory.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY

Race 7: PRINCESS CALLA (1)
Jockey: Zackey C - Trainer: Marcus A

This is a competitive Western Cape Fillies Championship and caution is advised. The narrow first choice is PRINCESS CALLA from the Adam Marcus stable. She was not disgraced when finishing third in the Grade 1 Thekwini Stakes last time. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. She makes her local debut this afternoon and if suited to the left-hand turn, she should be the one to beat.
