Race 1

Trainer Gareth van Zyl holds a strong hand in this contest and he can saddle the first two past the post. WISSA’S ON FIRE produced a promising debut effort over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, seven weeks ago. He moved up well and fought hard all the way to the line. The son of Captain Of All would have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, he may be the one to beat.

RIVERSTONE showed good improvement when second over 1000m last time. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will love the rise to 1200m. He is a progressive type and should be involved at the finish.

GRAVITY stayed on when second over 1250m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He may be the one to spoil the Gareth van Zyl party.

Race 2

ROMAN AGENT produced a promising debut effort over this C&D in the Non-Black Type Commonwealth Plate. He was very green in running, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of Vercingetorix would have gained from the experience and with the natural progression that is expected, he should be the one to beat.

SWEETIE DARLING won a good race on debut in the Non-Black Type Futurity Plate over 800m. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. The daughter of Royal Mo could be anything and she may give the males a run for their money.

BJORN IRONSIDE finished 2.25 lengths behind the top selection on debut. He lost a length leaving the start and stayed on at the finish. He would have come on from the outing and should make the natural progression.

Race 3

ISIVUNGUVUNGU makes his seasonal debut after winning the Grade 1 Mercury Sprint at the end of the 2022/2023 season. The break would have done him the world of good. He has won four times, finished second three times and third once from as many starts over this distance.

THUNDERSTRUCK won a good race in the Non-Black Type Bantry Bay Stakes last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He finished 0.6 lengths behind the top choice, three runs ago. He is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.

BEREAVE finished 2.25 lengths behind the selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may battle to turn the form around. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter.

Race 4

MRS GERIATRIX was doing her best work late when having to overcome a wide draw in the Grade 1 WSB Cape Fillies Guineas. The daughter of Vercingetorix may love the drop to 1200m on this course. On best form shown, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

GOLDEN HOSTESS should have finished closer to the winner last time as she raced awkwardly around the turn. She has won twice and finished third once from four starts over this C&D. The daughter of Gold Standard is having her peak run today and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

OCTOBER MORN was unlucky not to have won her last start as she was held up for a run at the 150m mark. She will love the step up to 1200m and with some luck in running, she can notch up her fourth career victory.

Race 5

AT MY COMMAND ran a good race when second in the Grade 2 WSB Green Point Stakes last time. Despite hanging outwards in the straight, the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. He finished third in his only attempt over this distance. The son of Querari jumps from a good draw of four and if keeping on a straight line, he can return to winning ways.

PACAYA was unlucky not to have won the Grade 3 Ridgemont Peninsula Handicap last time as he was cramped for galloping room in the latter stages. He finished 0.7 lengths behind MASTER REDOUTE that day. He is 4.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.

RASCALLION finished 2.95 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result. However, he won this race last year and will be looking to defend his title.

Race 6

PRINCESS CALLA still showed some signs of needing her last run in the Grade 2 WSB Green Point Stakes as she tired in the latter stages. The 6yo mare is having her peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. She is the best horse in this race and can return to winning ways.

SAARTJIE showed good guts and determination to win the Grade 3 SplashOut Victress Stakes last time. The daughter of Dynasty is now unbeaten from two starts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces. HAPPY CHANCE finished 0.3 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish. She is having her second run after a rest and will strip much fitter.

Race 7

SEE IT AGAIN was an impressive winner in the Grade 2 WSB Green Point Stakes last time. The manner in which he quickened up and drew off at the finish was eye-catching. He is clearly in a good space and should take a power of beating.

CHARLES DICKENS finished 2.15 lengths behind the top choice in the race referred to above. He would have come on from the run and should be at peak fitness. The son of Trippi merits healthy respect.

COSMIC HIGHWAY won a good race in the Grade 2 Cape Merchants. He should have no issues with the rise to the mile as he has placed over this distance multiple times. He should get a good run in transit from pole position and can earn another cheque for his patrons.

Race 8

TENANGO finished 1.6 lengths behind FUTURE VARIETY last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He is a horse with plenty of scope. If getting away to a clean start, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

TOUGH TERRAIN was ultra- impressive when winning his last start over this C&D. He was settled at the rear of the field and finished his race off strongly. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. If repeating that effort, he can follow up.

FUTURE VARIETY won a good race in his last start over this C&D. He ran on powerfully that day. Aldo Domeyer steps back into the saddle and he can follow up.

Race 9

NEBRAAS showed good signs of a form return in the Grade 3 Ridgemont Peninsula Handicap last time. He raced from a handy position and rallied late to finish fourth. The 7yo gelding will love the step up to 2500m. He does have an awkward draw of nine but gets the services of Gavin Lerena who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

ARAGOSTA was an easy winner in the Listed Summer Stayers Handicap last time. He meets a similar field this afternoon and can follow up.

RAISEAHALLELUJAH finished 2.75 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is only 0.5kgs better off at the weights which is not enough to turn the form around, but he should finish closer
