Race 1

GO LIKE FLO produced a promising debut effort over this C&D, four weeks ago. She raced from just off the pace and the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. She would have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the horse to beat.

WAR EMPRESS hails from the visiting Ashley Fortune stable. She ran a good race on debut over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. She returns from a 10-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. She gets the tongue-tie fitted for the first time and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

YGRITTE was a tad disappointing in her last start over 1200m on this course. She moved up like a winner in her penultimate effort, but was caught late. The daughter of William Longsword should have no issues with the drop to 1000m and she merits healthy respect.

Race 2

MASTER JOSH was not disgraced when finishing fifth in a Sales race last time. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Pomodoro has been gelded since that effort which may have done the trick. He jumps from pole position and if repeating his penultimate effort, he should be the horse to beat.

CHARLIE CROKER has good consistent form lines to his credit. He raced from a handy position last time, but found one too good in the form of Kingdom Of Heaven. He jumps from a good draw of four and is one of the leading contenders.

RAINBOW COLOURS produced a promising debut effort over 1200m. He was green in running and the saddle was reported to have slipped. The son of Gimmethegreenlight would have gained from the experience and he should make the natural progression.

Race 3

Trainer Candice Bass-Robinson holds a strong hand in this contest and she can saddle the first two past the post. NARINA TROGON finished 1.65 lengths behind HAMMIES HERO last time. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The son of Silvano will be at home over the 1400m. He is likely to be settled near the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

HAMMIES HERO ran a good race when fourth in the Listed Sophomore Sprint last time. He received a bump at the 200m mark that day, but stayed on at the finish. The son of Twice Over will enjoy the extra furlong on offer and he will be involved in the fight to the finish.

TOUT A FAIT raced wide around the turn last time and was outrun late. He has won three times and finished third once from seven starts over this C&D. He jumps from a good draw of two and his best form has been under Grant van Niekerk.

Race 4

SILVANO’S DASHER ran a good race when finishing third over 1600m on this course, last time. He was slow into stride, but finished his race off strongly. The son of Silvano takes a rise in class, but he carries a handy galloping mass of 53.5kgs and should be up to the task at hand.

LOOK FOR HOUNDS stayed on when third over this distance in the Grade 3 Matchem Stakes last time. It must be noted that Trip Of Fortune has come out and won a Grade 2 event since. He has won once, finished second once and third twice from seven starts over this C&D. He jumps from a good draw of three and merits healthy respect.

SILVER FALCON should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung outwards in the closing stages. He is having his second run after a rest and will strip much fitter. If keeping on a straight line, he should be competitive.

Race 5

This is a competitive Merit Rated 80 Handicap and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is THUNDER MASTER from the Candice Bass-Robinson yard. He was in need of his comeback run over 1100m last time. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. The son of Master Of My Fate will strip a much fitter horse today and from his good draw of four, he can notch up his third career victory.

WINTER AIR showed good signs of a form return in his last start over 1400m. The blinkers seem to have done the trick on the son of What A Winter. He carries a handy galloping mass of 53.5kgs and must be included in all bets.

PROFESSOR SNAPE was given a peach of a ride when winning his maiden at the third time of asking over 1600m. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. The son of William Longsword takes on stronger, but he has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.

Race 6

GLOBAL ALLY’S last two starts have been fair. He raced from a handy position over 1950m last time and stayed on to finish third. It must be noted that Navy Strength has come out and won again since. He takes a drop in class and from his good draw of three, he is capable of returning to winning ways.

SHAVOUT was his own worst enemy last time as he overraced in the early stages. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He finished second in his only attempt on this course. If Bernard Fayd’Herbe is able to switch him off early, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

STREET ART is lightly raced with good form to his credit. He moved up like a winner over 1600m last time, but was caught late by Innamorare. Tristan Godden makes his way to the Western Cape for the ride and with a bit of luck, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 7

This is a competitive Grade 2 Cape Merchants field and caution is advised. The tentative first choice is GIMME A PRINCE from the Dean Kannemeyer stable. He finished 0.5 lengths behind RESONATE last time and is 1.5kgs better off at the weights. That should be enough for the tables to be turned. He will strip a much fitter horse today and can notch up his fourth career victory.

RESONATE ran on powerfully when winning the Listed Southeaster Sprint last time. He has won once and finished second twice from four starts over this C&D. The son of Twice Over is in a good space and merits healthy respect.

BEREAVE finished 2.3 lengths behind SURJAY last time. He is 3kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He is having his peak run and will be cherry-ripe.

Race 8

LIVE MY LIFE finished 0.9 lengths behind PACIFIC GREEN last time. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She would have come on from the run and with just 54kgs on her back, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

PACIFIC GREEN won a good race over 1100m last time. She will enjoy the extra 100m on offer and can follow up.

WINTER FURI should have finished closer to the winner last time as she was cramped for galloping room in the closing stages. She has won once, finished second once and third once from four starts over this C&D. The daughter of What A Winter will strip a much fitter horse today and she must be included in all bets
