ETHIOPIAN QUEEN ran a good race when finishing second on debut over 1200m on this course. She showed good speed that day, but found one too good in the form of Maryah. She found plenty of betting support that day which suggests that she had been showing good work back at home. The daughter of What A Winter would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should shed her maiden tag.
ANGELIC FORT finished 1.3 lengths behind the top choice last time. She gets the blinkers fitted this afternoon which should keep her mind on the task at hand. The daughter of Elusive Fort will be staying on at the business end.
ANCIENT EPIC produced a promising debut effort over this distance on the Polytrack. She showed pace and stayed on nicely to finish third. The daughter of Vercingetorix would have come on from the run and should make the natural progression.
Race 2:
GREENGROWTHELILACS produced a promising debut effort over 1400m on the polytrack. The manner in which she ran on at the finish that day was encouraging. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight would have come on with the run under her belt. She will enjoy the step up to the mile and if suited to the turf, she should be the one to beat.
ONE BITE AT A TIME was bumped at the start on debut, but the manner in which she finished off her race that day was eye-catching. She takes on her own sex today and will love the step up to the mile. She jumps from pole position and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
CORDOBESA showed very good improvement in her last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Greyville. It must be noted that there have been multiple winners from that form line. If confirming her recent improvement, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 3:
BRISTOLBEAUFIGHTER showed very good improvement in his last start over 1200m. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will enjoy the step up to the mile. The son of Judpot looks to be a progressive type and from his good draw of two, can go one better.
GIMMIE A STAR is an unraced son of Gimmethegreenlight from the Dean Kannemeyer yard with stable jockey Keagan de Melo in the saddle. He is related to four-time winner, Myhopesanddreams. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.
ARUMUGAM has produced three decent efforts to date. He gets the blinkers fitted today which should keep his mind on the task at hand. With a bit of luck from his wide draw, he should be competitive.
Race 4:
AFTER THE RAIN produced two good efforts before given a 15-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. The son of Master Of My Fate should have no issues with the drop back to 1200m. He makes his course debut and if suited to the track, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
AFRICAN SKYLINE ran a decent race on debut over 1000m on this course. The son of Mogok would have come on from the run and should enjoy the extra furlong on offer. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should pose a threat.
LADOOSHKA has produced two decent efforts over this C&D. The son of Curved Ball looks to be a progressive type and will be staying on at the business end.
Race 5:
This is a weak Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is RODRIGUEZ from the Gareth van Zyl stable. He was his own worst enemy against winners last time as he overraced in the early stages. The son of Twice Over drops back to Maiden Company today and Warren Kennedy may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
ROMANEE CONTI should have finished closer on debut as he hung in the closing stages. The son of Ideal World would have come on from the run and with Keagan de Melo in the saddle, he should show improvement.
CALLMEMRGREENLIGHT has produced three fair efforts to date. He returns from a 12-week break which may have done him the world of good. He makes his course debut and should have plenty of improvement to come.
Race 6:
CAPTAIN FONTANE returns from a lengthy 46-week break due to him not being able to go to Hong Kong. He was super-impressive in both his career victories thus far. The son of Captain Al would have strengthened up in his time off the track. He looks to have plenty of ability and if not in need of the run, he should remain unbeaten.
STELLA ACT was in need of her last two starts. She has won twice from three starts over this C&D. The daughter of Act Of War is well-weighted and should be cherry-ripe.
BIG SKY COUNTRY was in need of her comeback run over 1100m on this course. She has won twice and finished second three times from seven starts over this distance. She should strip a much fitter horse and can earn a cheque.
Race 7:
AQUAE SULIS was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over 1750m on this course. She raced from a handy position that day and fought hard all the way to the line. She meets a similar type of field this afternoon and can follow up.
BASETSANA ran a good race when finishing second over this C&D last time. She has won twice, finished second once and third once from six starts on this course. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
SLIEVANORRA finished 2.6 lengths behind the second choice last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
Race 8:
STAR VEGA was not disgraced when finishing fourth against the males last time. The manner in which she ran on at the business end that day was eye-catching. The daughter of Oratorio is having her peak run this afternoon and can return to winning ways.
PURPLE PERSUASION is much better than her last start suggests. Her penultimate run when winning over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Greyville catches the eye. She has cracked a good draw this afternoon and should be one of the leading contenders.
CAPTAIN ARIANO finished 1.15 lengths behind the second choice last time. She is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the tables.
Race 9:
DIAMONDS ‘N DUST was in need of her comeback run over this distance at the Vaal. She has won three times and finished third twice from eight starts over this distance. She takes a slight drop in class today and should strip a much fitter horse. She makes her course debut and if suited to the track, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
WHIZZ OF ODDS was not disgraced when finishing third against the males last time. She has won once, finished second once and third once from five starts over this C&D. Apprentice Donald Geerthsen takes the 4kgs off her back and she should be competitive.
SAV’S STAR ran a good race when finishing third in a workriders race last time. She has won once and finished third once from as many starts on this course. If repeating that effort today, she should run into the money
