Race 1

THE SHEPHERD is the best bet on the programme. He produced a promising debut in a competitive Maiden Plate over 1000m on this course. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. The son of Captain Of All would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1200m. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should be the one to beat in this line-up.

RUN TO RIO showed good improvement in his last start over this C&D. He cast a shoe in running that day which didn’t help his chances. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He is a progressive type and is one of the leading contenders.

FLIGHT PATH ran a fair race on debut over this C&D. He returns from an 11-week break during which time he would have strengthened up. The son of Flying The Flag can improve to finish in the placings.

Race 2

This is a competitive Merit Rated 76 Handicap and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is STANLEY PARK from the Garth Puller stable. He fought hard for his last victory over this C&D. He finished 0.65 lengths behind QUEST FOR THE BEST in his penultimate run. He is 4kgs better off at the weights and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The blinkers have done the trick and he can follow up.

SEA VISTA showed good speed when winning his last start over 1200m on this course. He finished 0.2 lengths behind PHILISPIEL in his penultimate run. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights and should turn the form around.

PHILISPIEL won a game race in his last start over this C&D. He received a five-pound penalty for that victory. The 6yo gelding shows good speed and merits healthy respect.

Race 3

MASTER FUEGO ran a decent race on debut over 1200m. He lost two lengths leaving the start, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of Master Of My Fate would have come on from the run and he should love the extra furlong on offer. If not too green around the turn, he should be the one to beat.

KUMEMORI ran a good race when second over 1600m on this course last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

EL DRAQUE was a tad disappointing last time. It must be noted that Thisiswhatitmeans has come out and won again since. Muzi Yeni takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

Race 4

Trainer Mike Miller holds a strong hand in this contest and can saddle the first two past the post. NINETY NINE HEROS has shown good improvement in his last two starts. He stayed on when second over this C&D last time. In this type of field, he can shed his maiden tag.

BILLY OF TEA finished 1.55 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.

ZERO DAWN was in need of his debut effort over 1200m. The son of Horizon steps up to 1750m and the alumites will be fitted. Gavin Lerena takes the ride and he should make the natural improvement.

Race 5

DIANA THE HUNTRESS ran an improved race over this C&D last time. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. The daughter of Futura takes a drop-in class and should strip much fitter. From her good draw of three, she may be the one to side with.

BLAZING KISS finished 1.6 lengths behind RECKLESS LOVE last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. If keeping on a straight line, she should pose a massive threat.

RECKLESS LOVE is a winner of her last three starts, the latest of which was over 1950m on this course. With a bit of luck from her wide draw, she can notch up her sixth career victory.

Race 6

SWEET SYMPHONY won a good race in her last start over this C&D. She raced from just off the pace, quickened up well and kept finding all the way to the line. She received a three-pound penalty for that victory. She is in a good space and can follow up.

AMERICAN GRAFFITI stayed on when sixth in the Grade 2 Debutante last time. The daughter of Silvano will love racing on the straight course. She has plenty of scope and should run a big race

BOMBER GIRL won a good race in her last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She finished 1.9 lengths behind the second choice in her penultimate run. She is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.

Race 7

This is a competitive Pinnacle Stakes field and caution is advised. BEECHAMWOOD BOY showed good speed when winning his last start over this C&D. He has won four times, finished second once and third once from seven starts over this C&D. He always gives of his best and can notch up his eighth career victory.

PRAY FOR RAIN was given a peach of a ride when winning the Listed Umngeni Handicap last time. The 6yo gelding may be at his best around the turn, but he is in a good space and can notch up the hat-trick.

SEEKING THE STARS was not beaten far in the Grade 1 Mercury Sprint last time. He has won once and finished third twice from six starts over this distance. This will be his first run for the Alyson Wright stable. He has faced stronger and on best form shown, he can feature.

Race 8

RODRIGUEZ finished off his race nicely over 1600m on this course last time, but was baulked in the latter stages. He finished 1.30 lengths behind PAPA C that day and is 1kg better off at the weights. There should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line. He jumps from a handy draw of six and with luck in running, he can return to winning ways.

PAPA C was running on when second in the race referred to above. He will enjoy the rise to 1950m and with 4kgs claiming apprentice Kobeli Lihaba retaining the ride, he should be competitive.

WINTER ROYALE finished 1.70 lengths behind the second choice in the race referred to above. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. He is having his second run after a rest and should strip much fitter
