Race 1

AFRICAN BEAT has produced two decent efforts over 1000m on this course. She showed pace last time and stayed on to finish third. The daughter of Querari will love the extra 100m on offer. She is progressive and unless one of the first-timers have potential, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

CALLING ALL ANGELS is an unraced daughter of New Predator from the Paul Lafferty yard with Keagan de Melo in the saddle. Her mother, The Angelus was a seven-time winner from 1450m to 1600m. If not too green, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her and the other unraced entrants.

BABY ON BOARD is a daughter of Potala Palace from the Robbie Hill stable with Sean Veale in the irons. She is related to multiple winners including Emerald Palace and Trapiche. If not in need of the run, she should give a good account of herself.

Race 2

DONQUERARI’S last three starts have been decent. He should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung in the closing stages. Serino Moodley takes the ride and if keeping on a straight line, he is capable of returning to winning ways.

BEECHAMWOOD BOY was unlucky not to have won his last start over this distance on the Polytrack. He has won twice, finished second three times and third three times from eleven starts over this distance. With a bit of luck in running, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

ASARULUDU was an easy winner when shedding his maiden tag over this distance on the Polytrack. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He is the stable elect with Rachel Venniker in the irons and he should be up to the task at hand.

Race 3

MASTERBLING is an unraced son of Master Of My Fate from the Garth Puller stable with Athandiwe Mgudlwa in the saddle. He does not need to be a stable superstar to win in this type of field. If not too green, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.

KING’S SPEAR‘S last three starts have been fair. He returns from a 10-week break which would have done him the world of good. If not in need of the run, he can win in this type of field.

MAGWINYA returns from a 10-week break and is having his first run for the Gary Rich stable. His penultimate run when finishing fourth over this distance at the Vaal catches the eye. If not in need of the run, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 4

SUPER FAST has shown good improvement in each of his outings to date. He got going too late when second over 1000m last time. The son of Querari will be at home over the 1400m and can go one better. He is carded to race on 19 February 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.

MAJESTIC REIGN stayed on at the finish over 1200m last time, but found one too good in the form of Lucky Dollar. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He jumps from pole position and should be involved in the fight to the finish.

GOLD INDEX was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. He has been gelded since the run and the blinkers may do the trick. He is bred to enjoy the 1400m and he has plenty of scope.

Race 5

ARVERNI KING has good consistent form lines to his credit. He received a bump at the 900m mark last time and was carried outwards. He has finished second once and third twice from as many starts on this course. The son of Vercingetorix steps up to the 1750m and from his good draw of three, he may be rewarded for consistency.

GIMME GORGEOUS finished 0.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.

VALERIAN NIGHT is the stable companion of the top choice. He ran a fair race over 1700m on the Polytrack last time. It must be noted that Afropolitan has come out and won again since. The son of Jackson may be at his best on the turf track and he has plenty of scope.

Race 6

EL REY VIENE won a very good race in his last start over this C&D. He raced from a handy position, quickened up well and won with a ton in hand. The son of William Longsword received a six-pound penalty for that victory. He looks to have ability and with a bit of luck from his wide draw of ten, he should notch up his third career victory.

EL DANTE was super-impressive when winning his last start over 1600m on this course. He set the pace, found another kick and won easier than the official margin suggests. He does have the natural gate speed to overcome the widest draw and he can follow up.

TIME TAKER ran on well and fought hard when fourth over 1600m on this course last time. He would have come on from the run and will strip much fitter. From pole position, he cannot be left out.

Race 7

CAPTAIN FONTANE got up where it matters most when winning the Non-Black Type Marula Sprint last time. The son of Captain Al received a three-pound penalty for that victory. He should have no issues with the step up to 1500m. He has found his best form and from his good draw of three, should notch up his sixth career victory.

MACARA ran a fair race behind Grade 1 winner Canadian Summer in the Grade 3 Flamboyant Stakes last time. She has won once and finished third twice from four starts on this course. She will strip a much fitter horse and should give the males a run for their money.

IDEAL ACT has good recent form lines to his credit. He was brushed leaving the starting stalls last time, but finished his race off strongly. He jumps from pole position and merits healthy respect.

Race 8

VICTORY BELLE followed up her maiden victory with a fair fifth-place finish over 1000m on the Polytrack. She lost a length at the start, but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The daughter of Rafeef takes a drop in class and will strip much fitter. If jumping on terms, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

DIAMOND GIRL moved up well over 1000m on this course last time and fought hard all the way to the line. She has won twice and finished second three times from eight starts on this course. She will strip much fitter and is a big runner.

MORGAN LA FAY lost a length leaving the start last time, but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. She takes a slight drop in class and can earn another cheque for her patrons
