Race 1

ZANTHAR was disappointing in his last start after producing an encouraging debut effort over 1100m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth. It must be noted that the form of his last outing has been franked. The son of New Predator has scope and if all went well with his travels back to the Highveld, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

SPRING TRADITION ran a fair race in his last start over 1450m on the Inside course. The son of Querari should be ideally suited to 1160m and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

TRUTH is an unraced son of Heavenly Blue from the Candice Dawson stable with Gavin Lerena in the saddle. If not too green, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to him and the other first timers.

Race 2

VJ’S ANGEL was an easy winner in her stable debut over 1200m at the Vaal. She showed good pace, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight is a progressive type and being the only winner in the race, she should follow up.

PEARL IN HER CROWN was in need of her debut effort over 1200m at the Vaal. The daughter of Soqrat would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she may be the one to fill the exacta spot.

STARS AND BRA’S may not have seen out the 1400m last time. Her debut effort when fourth over 1000m was encouraging. She should be ideally suited to 1160m and must be included in all bets.

Race 3

OCTOBER FAIR is better than her last start with the blinkers fitted and the headgear has been quickly removed. The daughter of Silvano runs well for jockey Serino Moodley. In this field, she can return to winning ways.

ONE RELIGION ran a fair race in the Listed Ormond Ferraris Oaks Trial last time. It must be noted that Frances Ethel has come out and won again since. She is likely to be settled near the rear of the field from the widest draw and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

CRIMSON FOREST finished 0.35 lengths behind the second selection last time. She is 2kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.

Race 4

BELLEVARDE was an easy winner of her last start over this distance on the Inside course. She raced from a handy position, quickened up well and won with a ton in hand. She has won once and finished second twice from as many starts over this C&D. Apprentice Trent Mayhew takes the 4kgs off her back and she can follow up.

OPERA GLASS is better than her last start. She finished 2.5 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate run. She is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.

DONNA MO took the lead at the 200m mark last time, but was caught in the shadow of the post. She meets a similar line-up this afternoon and merits healthy respect.

Race 5

MELECH is better than his last start in the Grade 1 Wilgerbosdrift H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes. He has won twice and finished second once from five starts on this course. Gavin Lerena steps back into the saddle and on previous form, he should be the one to side with.

BINGWA showed some signs of a form return in his last start over 1400m on this course. Three of his five career victories have come over this C&D. Kabelo Matsunyane is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

ATTICUS FINCH returns from a 20-week break which may have done him the world of good. He has won twice from three starts over this C&D. If not in need of this outing, he may be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 6

ON THE HORIZON is lightly raced with good form lines to her credit. She returns from a 15-week break which would have done her the world of good. She won her only attempt over this distance and finished second in her only attempt on this course. The daughter of Judpot is a filly with class and if fit, she should be too good for this field.

SEA ANEMONE rallied late when winning her last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. She is in a good space and can follow up.

DUENNA is a winner of her last two starts, the latest of which was over 1450m on the Inside course. She takes a rise in class but is in a good space and can notch up the hat-trick.

Race 7

MOUNT PILATUS finished 0.5 lengths behind RICHARD THE FIRST last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He has finished second twice and third twice from five starts on this course. The blinkers seem to have done the trick and he may be the one to side with.

RICHARD THE FIRST tried hard in his last start, but found one too good in the form of Master Christmas. Denis Schwarz is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

JUST BE LEKKER’S last two starts have been fair. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth in her last outing has come out and won since. S’manga Khumalo is booked to ride and she should give the males a run for their money.

Race 8

POWER BROKER is better than his last start over 1200m on the Inside course. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. Calvin Habib steps back into the saddle and he may be hard to peg back.

COSMIC STAR showed good speed when winning his last start over 1000m on this course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He finished 2.75 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.

AUSSENKEHR ran a good race over 1200m on the Inside course last time. He has won three times and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. He carries a handy galloping mass of 54kgs and cannot be ignored.

Race 9

SILVER TUDOR was running on when second over 1200m on the Inside course last time. Two of his three career victories have come over this C&D. He carries joint top weight and will be doing his best work at the finish in this field.

SAN SIMON moved up well last time, but was outrun late by Mizzen Sail. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

CIAN THE CONQUEROR was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1450m on the Inside course. He won a good race over 1200m at the Vaal in his penultimate start. If putting his best foot forward, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest
