Race 1

SONIC JET produced a promising debut effort over 1200m at the Vaal. She showed good speed but showed signs of needing the run and tired late. The daughter of Erupt found betting support that day which suggests that she was showing good work at home. She would have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, she may be the one to beat.

FATAL FLAW showed good improvement in her last start over 1400m at the Vaal. She finished 1.5 lengths behind the top choice on debut. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.

VARVARA took on winners in her last start over 1200m on this course. The daughter of Var should love the rise to 1450m. She is a progressive type and with Richard Fourie in the saddle, she should have improvement to come.

Race 2

LEGEND OF ARTHUR is the best bet on the programme. He produced an encouraging debut effort over 1000m on the Standside course. He was slow into stride, understandably raced green but stayed on at the finish. He would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1450m. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should take a power of beating.

PIBE DE ORO stayed on when second over 1200m on this course last time. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he will enjoy the rise to 1450m. He is having his peak run today and is one of the leading contenders.

GRAND CRESCENDO raced in features in his first two starts in the Western Cape. He is back in Maiden Company and should love the rise to 1450m. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and there should be improvement to come.

Race 3

SOMEDAY MAYBE showed good pace in her last start against male company, tried hard but found one too good in the form of Prized Platinum. The daughter of Flying The Flag is back against her own sex and should be hard to peg back.

EMPRESSOFNORMANDY finished 2.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result. The daughter of William Longsword will be mowing down the frontrunners.

AUTUMN VAR is an unraced daughter of Var from the Tyrone Zackey stable with Richard Fourie in the saddle. She is related to multiple winners including Senescence and Canadian Summer. If not too green, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.

Race 4

STREWN SKY showed good improvement in his comeback run over 1160m on the Standside course. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and from his good draw of three, he can go one better.

THERES A LIGHT set the pace over 1400m last time, but was caught in the shadow of the post by Al Bayreg. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

THE PLAYBOY BOMBER ran a decent race in his last start over this C&D. He stayed on at the finish but found one too good in the form of Feel All Right. The son of Lancaster Bomber is a progressive type and with luck in running, he should have more to come.

Race 5

HALBERDIER was not disgraced when fifth in the Grade 3 Betway National Currency Sprint last time. He should have finished closer to the winner that day as he hung inwards throughout. The son of New Predator takes a drop in class and it is encouraging that Muzi Yeni steps back into the saddle. Despite his big mass of 62kgs, he can return to winning ways.

CIRCUS LIGHTS took the lead at the 150m mark last time, but was caught late by Vava Vegas. He meets similar company this afternoon and is one of the leading contenders.

TWICE AS WILD showed good speed when winning her last start over this C&D. She received a two-pound penalty for that victory. She carries a light mass of 49.5kgs and should give the males a run for their money.

Race 6

SILENT WAR has good consistent form lines to his credit. He was running on too late when second in his last start over 1600m on the Standside course. The son of Gimmethegreenlight should have no issues with the rise to 1700m. He jumps from a good draw of three and may be the one to beat.

PYROMANIAC was doing his best work late over 1500m on this course last time. The blinkers seem to have done the trick on the son of Silvano. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and if jumping on terms, he should be competitive.

SUPREME DANCE ran on well when winning his last start over 1800m on the Standside course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He is in a good space and merits healthy respect.

Race 7

PEWTER SKY has fair recent form lines to his credit. He lost a length leaving the start over 2000m last time and stayed on to finish fourth. The son of Capetown Noir takes a drop in class and in the ratings. If getting away to a clean start, he can notch up his third-career victory. A

PLACE IN THE SUN ran on strongly when second in her last start over 1600m at the Vaal. She has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. Kabelo Matsunyane steps back into the saddle and the combination merit healthy respect.

PRICELESS finished 1.25 lengths behind the second choice last time. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

Race 8

MID WINTER WIND is a winner of his last three starts, the latest of which was over 1400m on the Standside course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second in his last start has come out and won since. The son of What A Winter is above average and should win again.

KARANGETANG showed good improvement in his last start over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course. He returns from a 10-week break which would have done him the world of good. He is the stable elect with Gavin Lerena up and is one of the leading contenders.

AUSSENKEHR was disappointing in his last start over 1000m. He has won once and finished third twice from as many starts on this course. Calvin Habib retains the ride and on best form shown, he should be involved at the finish.

Race 9

RUN FOR COVER was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1600m on this course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. Richard Fourie is booked to ride from pole position and he should be the one to beat.

TRIPPIS TUNE fought hard for his maiden victory over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. He does take on stronger, but has scope and should be up to the task at hand.

ARIVIDICIO finished 7.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around. With luck from the widest draw, he can finish in the placings
