SA DERBY

Grade 1 - 2400m - R2 Million

HAWWAAM looks a very bright prospect to follow going forward and on his last start, looks very tough to oppose over this trip. He was an ultra impressive winner last time out when hammering the opposition. He will be dropped out from that wide draw and one can expect another very impressive effort by the half brother to this years Met winner. 

ZILLZAAL is next of the rest on that last run behind the 1. The stable elect form the Tarry yard is bred to enjoy the trip and from a handy draw, he should be running on at the finish. 

LAST OF A LEGEND, although not the first choice from the Tarry yard, has plenty more to come and must be included on his Derby Trial effort last time out. He doesn't have the best of draws to negotiate, but should have the gate speed to find a handy position where it appears he is most comfortable.

SA OAKS

Grade 2 - 2400m - R750,000

BLOSSOM gets a slightly better draw today, after having no luck in that department in her last two starts. The well bred daughter of Silvano is bred for this trip, her mother being a previous winner of this race. With that in mind, she still has plenty of scope and she is well set up to reverse the finishing order with the 1, on that last run. 

SECOND REQUEST has been running in much stronger company of late and she makes her return to the Highveld after a decent Cape campaign. The stable elect from the Tarry yard gets a useful draw today and on her pedigree, should also enjoy the extra ground. 

RETURN FLIGHT beat the top selection last time out, yet may have stamina doubts over this Oaks trip. She has a solid record to her name and if staying out the trip, should feature prominently and must be included.

CHITENGO has the blinkers removed this run and gets the services of top jockey Lerena for this ou- ting. She is in solid form and still has plenty of scope, however at this stage looks held by the top selection.

HORSE CHESTNUT STAKES

Grade 1 - 1600m - R1.25 Million

SOQRAT was disappointing last time out, on his return to the province and he will certainly be looking to make amends here. He has a good record at this course and on his penultimate effort in the Queens Plate, looks hard to oppose here. 

LEGAL EAGLE needs no introduction over this track and trip and should once again feature prominently in the betting. He may just be getting a bit long in the tooth, but on his best career form is probably unbeatable. With that said, he may just find it tougher now and looks held by the 9 on his penultimate.

CASCAPEDIA is a highly talented versatile sort that will most certainly be competitive in this company. Gavin Lerena clearly agrees and if repeating her latest effort, looks a huge danger.

TILBURY FORT hasn't done much wrong of late and clearly has an affinity for this C&D. He gets a handy draw once again and although not the stable elect, must be considered on his best form to date.
