Race 1
CHERRY OH BABY is an unraced daughter of Danon Platina from the Mike de Kock stable with Gavin Lerena in the saddle. She is related to five-time winner Seventh Gear. If not in need of this outing, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her and the other first timer in this contest.
HORIZON VIEW is a daughter of Horizon from the Tony Peter stable with Calvin Habib booked to ride. She is related to multiple winners including Celestial Love and Amarandi. If not too green in running, she should give a good account of herself.
GLAWARI tried hard in her last start over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course, but found one too good in the form of Inafix. She is back against her own sex and should be the first raced runner past the post.
Race 2
SACAMBAYA is having his first run on the Highveld. He is better than his last start against winners in the Western Cape. He should have no issues with the drop to 1160m as he has placed over 1000m in the past. If settled into his new surroundings, he can shed his maiden tag.
SECRET CHORD has finished second in his last three starts, the latest of which was over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
PRIZED PLATINUM produced a promising debut effort over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course. He received a bump leaving the start, raced green but stayed on at the finish. He would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1160m. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should be competitive.
Race 3
SUKHUMVIT produced a promising debut effort over 1600m on this course. She was bumped leaving the start, but the manner in which she finished off her race was encouraging. She found betting support that day which suggests that she was showing good work at home. The daughter of Silvano would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should take a power of beating.
DONNA MO’S last three starts have been good. She is having her first run on the Highveld and if suited to this course, she should be one of the leading contenders.
MAGIC SECRET was in need of her debut effort over 1160m on this course. She would have come on from the run and will enjoy the step up to 1400m. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and there should be improvement to come.
Race 4
MID WINTER WIND has produced two good runs to date. He stayed on when second over 1160m last time, but choked up in running. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has been gelded which may have done the trick. The son of What A Winter will love the rise to 1400m and he should be the horse to beat.
THE OCTAGON stayed on when third over this C&D last time. It must be noted that Mary’s Greenlight has come out and won again since. He would have come on from his last outing and is one of the leading contenders.
DUAL PROPHECY was disappointing in his last start over 1160m. His debut effort was encouraging. The son of Twice Over is bred to love the step up to 1400m and if putting his best foot forward, he should feature.
Race 5
MY LADY SOUL stayed on at the finish over 1600m last time, but found one too good in the form of Lady Fallon. The daughter of Master Of My Fate will be at home over 1400m. She is drawn widest of all in barrier ten, but gets the services of Gavin Lerena who will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
SIMPLE SIMPLE is better than her last start as the jockey reported something to be amiss. Her form prior to that outing was consistent. Muzi Yeni is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
DOLCEZZA is better than her last start over this C&D. She finished 2.85 lengths behind the second choice in her penultimate run. She is 5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
Race 6
CLIFF HANGER raced from a prominent position over this C&D last time and stayed on at the finish. It must be noted that Rulership has come out and won again since. He is a horse with plenty of class and despite his big mass of 61kgs, he should be the one to beat.
ZIYASHA should have finished closer last time as he ducked outwards in the closing stages. He finished 1.25 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
WIND WATER finished 3.5 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today which is not enough for the tables to be turned but he should finish closer as a result.
Race 7
SIBERIAN STEEL has good recent form lines to his credit. He raced from just off the pace over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course last time and stayed on to finish third. He has won twice, finished second twice and third once from nine starts over this distance. He should be involved in the finish once again.
WHAT A TIGER has won his last two starts with ease. Three of his four career victories have come over this distance. Denis Schwarz retains the ride and the combination can notch up the hat- trick.
DONTSHOOTTHEBARMAN is a winner of his last two starts under Richard Fourie. He takes a rise in class, but is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
Race 8
HAWKBILL set the pace over 1700m at the Vaal last time, but found one too good in the form of Guy Gibson. He finished third in his penultimate run on this course. The son of Elusive Fort tries the 2000m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he can return to winning ways.
SUPREME DANCE has some decent recent form lines to his name. He takes a drop-in class and Piere Strydom may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
HOME OF THE BRAVE showed signs of needing his first run as a gelding. He has won once and finished third twice from as many starts over this distance. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he should be competitive
