It must be noted that the horse that finished third in that run has come out and won since. He should have no problems with the step up in trip as he ran a good race in his penultimate start over 1500m. Marco Van Rensburg retains the ride this afternoon and from a midfield draw, he should be the one they all have to beat.

POPPYCOCK has found betting support in his last two starts but has been narrowly beaten in both outings. He tried hard in his last effort, but was reported to be coughing post-race. The striking grey colt tries the extra furlong this afternoon and the way he has finished off his last two starts suggests that he will be at home over the distance. He is drawn wide, but his apprentice will slot him in and let him do his best work up the straight. He meets a weak field today and should shed his maiden tag. He is carded to race at the Vaal on 31 October and his progress there must be checked.

GLAMOROUS SCANDAL has come well in her last two starts. She was making steady progress in her last outing behind FLYING FANTASY, five weeks ago. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights with her conqueror and that may not be enough to turn the tables. However, she is much better suited to today's distance with three seconds and a third-placed finish from six outings. Piere Strydom does duty this afternoon and she will be running on from her wide draw.

PROMISEOFAMASTER is the best bet on today's card. He was his own worst enemy last time as he overraced which caused him to clip heels. It must be noted that Green Haze who finished just behind him that day has come out and won since. The son of Master Of My Fate was far from disgraced in the Grade 1 Premiers Champion Stakes in his penultimate start. He was slow into stride that day, but made steady progress up the straight. If jumping on terms and with a bit of luck in running, he should take a power of beating.

Race 4: TOUGH CHOICE (8)
Jockey: J Greyling - Trainer: P Matchett
This is an open handicap event and an upset could be on the cards. TOUGH CHOICE is much better than his last run suggests. He raced wide around the turn and hung in the straight. He is much better suited to staying distances and his penultimate run over 2400m caught the eye. He came from far back to finish 0.5 lengths behind Master And Man. A repeat of that effort will see him fight out the finish over the extra distance.
