Race 1

SUNSHINE DAY set the pace over 1400m in her stable debut, but found one too good in the form of On The Horizon. The manner in which she raced that day suggests that she should not have any issues with the drop to 1200m. She would have come on from the run and in this line-up, she can shed her maiden tag.

ARCTIC COMMANDER has shown good improvement in her last two starts after returning from an 18-week break. She is having her peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

FLYING PUMA finished 0.25 lengths behind the second selection last time. She is 2.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.

Race 2

POLICY OF TRUTH is the best bet on the programme. He showed good improvement when second in his last start over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course. It must be noted that New Mexico has come out and won again since. The son of Master Of My Fate is a progressive type and can go one better.

VIVA SPIRIT finished 2.2 lengths behind the top selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.

HEART OF THIEVES showed very good improvement in his last start over this distance. He could have won that day as he hung from the 600m mark. If Kabelo Matsunyane is able to keep him on a straight line, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 3

HOUSE OF ROMANOV ran a good race when second in his stable debut over 1600m on this course. He set the pace that day, but may have cost himself winning as he over raced in the early stages. The son of Potala Palace tries the 1800m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

SCARLETT PIMPERNEL ran a good race in his last start over 1600m on this course, despite reported to be lame on his left hind. The son of Flower Alley should have no issues with the extra furlong on offer and he is one of the leading contenders.

PUERTO PLATA produced some decent form lines before given a 19-week break. He finished second in his penultimate start over this C&D. If not in need of this outing, he should run a big race.

Race 4

KIND JUDY is better than her last start over 2600m as the race was run at a slow pace which didn’t suit her. She should have no issues with the drop to 2000m as she has won once and finished third once from four starts over this distance. It is encouraging that Muzi Yeni keeps faith in the ride and she can notch up her seventh career victory.

BURMESE TIARA was given a perfect ride when winning her last start over 2600m on the Turffontein Inside course. Her record on this course is a slight concern, but she is in a good space and cannot be ignored.

PRETTY IN PEARLS set the pace over 1800m at Turffontein last time, but was caught in the shadow of the post by Kwazzi’s Lady. If repeating that effort in this type of field, she should be involved in the fight to the finish

Race 5

PERFECT WITNESS rallied late when winning her last start over 1800m at Turffontein. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She has won over the mile in the past and is in a good space. With a bit of luck in running, she can follow up.

CRIMSON PRINCESS stayed on strongly when third over 1450m on this course last time. Three of her five career victories have come over the mile. She always gives of her best and merits healthy respect.

SILENT WAR won his stable debut with ease over 1450m on this course. He raced from a handy position, quickened up well and won with a ton in hand. He takes on stronger, but is in a very good space and can notch up the hat-trick.

Race 6

BLOOMINGTON won a good race in his last start over 1450m on this course. He has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this C&D. He meets a similar line-up this afternoon and should be the horse to beat.

NORDIC REBEL finished 1.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result. Raymond Danielson takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

RAIN OR SHINE was an easy winner of his last start over 1450m on this course. He received a four-pound penalty for that victory. His wide draw of ten is an obvious concern, but with luck in running, he can feature.

Race 7

SIBERIAN STEEL took on slightly stronger company in his last start over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course. He finished 0.1 lengths behind AXEL COLLINS in his penultimate run. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. If this run has not come too soon, he can return to winning ways

AXEL COLLINS ran a decent race when fourth over 1100m at Turffontein last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. His last victory came at this rating and he is one of the leading contenders.

COVERT OPERATOR finished 2 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.

Race 8

The tentative first selection is DARK TIDE from the Fanie Bronkhorst stable. He was squeezed leaving the start over this distance last time, but stayed on well to finish third. He takes a drop-in class and Gavin Lerena steps back in the saddle. If getting away to a clean start, he should be the one to beat.

BROSNAN is better than his last start over 1200m on this course. It must be noted that Lulu’s Boy has come out and won again since. He has won once and finished second twice from five starts over this distance. He tries the blinkers for the first time which should keep his mind on the task at hand.

SMELTING showed good signs of a form return in her last start over this C&D. If repeating that effort, she should give the males a run for their money
