Race 1

CRYSTAL MAIDEN is an unraced daughter of Flower Alley from the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable with Gavin Lerena in the saddle. She is related to multiple winners including Dark Moon Rising and Earth Sky. If not too green, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.

MOUNT ETNA showed good improvement in her last start over this C&D. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. The daughter of Erupt is having her peak run today and she may have more to come.

INNER SENSE‘S last two starts have been good. It must be noted that the form of her last outing has been franked. She is having her peak run today and should earn another cheque for her patrons.

Race 2

TAMIL TIGRESS took on stronger in the Grade 2 Zulu Kingdom Explorer Golden Slipper last time. Her penultimate run when third in the Listed Hollywoodbets Super League Devon Air Stakes catches the eye. The daughter of William Longsword takes on Maiden Company and with just 54kgs on her back, she can shed her maiden tag.

MIZZEN SAIL raced from just off the pace over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course last time, but found one too good in the form of Duenna. The daughter of Erupt will love the rise to 1450m and she is one of the leading contenders.

CALLABURN produced an encouraging debut effort over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course. He was slow into stride, understandably raced green but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of Querari would have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be competitive.

Race 3

This is an open Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is PIKE PLACE from the Dianne Stenger stable. He jumped inwards leaving the start, but stayed on nicely at the business end. Chase Maujean is in hot form and if getting away to a clean start, the son of Mambo In Seattle may find himself in the winner’s enclosure

BREATH OF MAGIC ran a fair race when third over 1200m on the Hollywoodbets Greyville polytrack last time. He steps up to the 1450m and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should pose a threat to the top choice.

COPPER JOHN‘S last two starts with the cheekpieces have been fair. He did not settle in the early stages of his last start over 1700m and will enjoy the drop to 1450m. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, he can run into the placings.

Race 4

MABONENG is better than her last start against male company. It must be noted that Royal Guide has come out and won again since. She has won once and finished second once from three starts over this C&D. Rachel Venniker takes the 1.5kgs off her back and from her good draw of two, she may be hard to peg back

MISS SHAIVI followed up her maiden victory with a decent third-place finish over 1400m at Turffontein. She finished 4.75 lengths behind the top choice that day. She is only 0.5kgs better off at the weights today which is not enough for the tables to be turned

JUST BE NICE has good consistent form lines to her credit. She has won twice and finished second once from five starts on this course. The 11-week break may have done her the world of good and if not in need of the run, she should produce a big effort.

Race 5

RUNNING RIFLES stayed on when second over 1450m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. It must be noted that Suryavarman has come out and won again since. The son of Vercingetorix won his penultimate start on this course. He is having his peak run and despite his big mass of 62kgs, he should be too good for this field.

BEY SUYAY has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. Two of his five career victories have come over this distance. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

LADY CALAVERA raced from a handy position over this C&D last time, moved up well but was caught late by Say Yes. She has won once and finished second twice from five starts over this C&D. From pole position, she should fight out the finish.

Race 6

BALLROOM BLISS ran on from last when 1.4 lengths behind PRINCESS KESH last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. Gavin Lerena is likely to adopt the same tactics from the widest draw and she will be mowing down the frontrunners.

PRINCESS KESH ran on strongly when winning in her stable debut over this C&D last time. The 5yo mare received a four-pound penalty for that victory. She jumps from a good draw of two and against similar company, she can follow up.

KIND JUDY may not have seen out the 3000m last time. She has won once and finished third once from three starts over this distance. The 6yo mare takes a drop-in class and must be included in all bets.

Race 7

WINGS OF NIKE has decent recent form lines to her credit. She finished 2 lengths behind SILVER WINTER in her penultimate run. She is 4.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She has won twice, finished second twice and third once from eight starts over this C&D. Rachel Venniker takes the ride and the combination may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure

ROZARA is better than her last start as she was reported to be not striding out. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. On her previous form, she should pose a threat.

TAYOOBA showed good speed over 1200m last time, but was caught late. She won her only attempt over this C&D. The daughter of Var is carded to race on 27 July 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

Race 8

GOLDEN SICKLE was an easy winner in her first start for the Tony Peter stable. She showed good speed, found another kick and drew off in the closing stages. She received a four-pound penalty for that victory and despite her big mass of 62kgs, she should be too good for this field.

ON CUE has finished second in her last two starts. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth in her last outing has come out and won since. She is having her first run for Paul Matchett and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

FEATHER THE NEST finished 2.1 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

Race 9

This is a competitive Merit Rated 68 Handicap and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is RED CARPET GIRL from the Fanie Bronkhorst stable. She ran a good race when second over this distance at Turffontein last time. She was slow into stride, but stayed on well at the finish. Nathan Klink retains the ride and if jumping on terms, she can return to winning ways.

DELLA‘S SWORD showed good signs of a form return in her last start over 1160m at Turffontein. She has won once and finished second twice from four starts over this distance. If confirming her recent improvement, she should pose a threat

MIA REGINA ran a decent race when third over this C&D last time. She showed good pace, but was outrun late. Jason Gates retains the ride and she may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line
