Race 1

MIZZEN SWORD should have finished closer to the winner over this C&D last time as he was eased at the 300m mark. The son of William Longsword is a progressive type and in this field, he can shed his maiden tag under Muzi Yeni.

PIONEER SQUARE is an unraced son of Querari from the Candice Dawson stable with Gavin Lerena in the saddle. He is related to four-time winner William Rufus. If not in need of this outing, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.

ONE MORE STAR was green and outpaced on debut over 1400m at Turffontein. He returns from a 19-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. The son of One World may be at his best when trying further but he can place in this line-up.

Race 2

GIMMEACHOICE is lightly raced with some good form lines to his credit. He has been carded to run twice since his last outing but has been scratched after travelling to the racecourse. The son of Gimmethegreenlight drops to 1400m and the blinkers should sharpen him up. If keeping on a straight line, he should be the one to beat.

CORRUPT ran on strongly after a slow start to win on debut over 1160m at Turffontein. He returns from an 11-week break which would have done him the world of good. The son of Erupt takes on stronger, but he carries a handy galloping mass of 54kgs and could be anything.

WE ARE THE LOGANS is the stable companion of the top selection. He ran on strongly when fourth over 1450m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

Race 3

This is a weak Maiden Plate for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is TIK TOK ADDICTION from the Tyrone Zackey stable. She lost three lengths leaving the start last time but stayed on to finish second. The blinkers seemed to have assisted her in the straight and if jumping on terms, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

EMPRESS WU ran a fair race when fourth over 1400m on this course last time. The daughter of Global View should love the rise to 1800m and she can earn another cheque for her patrons.

AMBITIOUS LADY finished 5.5 lengths behind TIK TOK ADDICTION last time. She is 3kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. She is drawn widest of all but Gavin Lerena retains the ride and he should give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

Race 4

The combination of Mike and Adam Azzie hold a strong hand in this contest and can saddle the first two past the post. EMBLEM OF WAR has produced three good runs to date. He returns from a lengthy 47-week break, during which time he was gelded. He gets the tongue-tie fitted which should assist. He returns over 1800m and if not in need of this outing, he should be too good for this field.

STORM AHEAD should have finished closer to the winner last time over this distance at Turffontein as he hung in the final 200m. The son of Rafeef is a solid back up for the Azzie stable in this field.

SNOW MOON showed good improvement in his last start over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course. Apprentice Trent Mayhew retains the ride and if repeating that effort, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 5

SECRET CHORD finished 2.4 lengths behind THE NAVY LARK last time. He is 3kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He has won twice and finished second twice from as many starts over this distance. The combination of St John Gray and Muzi Yeni are in top form. He can notch up his third-career victory.

THE NAVY LARK stayed on when second over this distance on the Classic course last time. It must be noted that Dontshootthebarman has come out and won again since. She won her only attempt over this C&D. She is carded to race on 26 September 2024 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

WHAT A TIGER finished 4.55 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today which is not enough to turn the form around. He is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D and will be looking to keep that record intact.

Race 6

KYLIE’S ANGEL stayed on when fourth over 1200m on this course last time. The daughter of Vercingetorix takes a drop in class and despite her big mass of 62kgs, she should take a power of beating.

TOGETHER AGAIN should have finished much closer last time as she had no luck in running. Apprentice Trent Mayhew takes the 2.5kgs off her back once again and she should be one of the leading contenders.

TWICE AS WILD has shown good speed in her last two starts, the latest of which was over 1200m on the Classic course. She finished third in her penultimate run over this C&D. Philasande Mxoli retains the ride and the combination merit healthy respect.

Race 7

DYCE quickened up well when returning to winning ways in his last start over 1000m on the Turffontein Inside course. He has won once and finished second twice from four starts on this course. It is encouraging that Piere Strydom retains the ride. He is the class horse in this race and should take a power of beating.

CLIFF HANGER showed good speed when second over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. The son of Canford Cliffs may be the one to fill the exacta spot.

QUANTUM THEORY finished 4.3 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 3kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

Race 8

This is a competitive Merit Rated 66 Handicap and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is SAMOA from the Bridget Stidolph stable. She finished 0.25 lengths behind INAFIX last time. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and a repeat of her last outing will see her involved at the finish.

ARILENA is better than her last start on the Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack. She was an easy winner of her penultimate start over 1000m on this course. Apprentice Trent Mayhew steps back into the saddle and she is one of the leading contenders.

JET CAT finished 2 lengths behind INAFIX in the race referred to above. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The 9yo gelding would not be a shock winner
