Cape Town City

 

After finishing as runners up in the league last season City had high hopes for 2022/23 but their start has been pretty disastrous. They finally opened their points account in midweek with a 0-0 draw at home to Maritzburg (who hit the woodwork twice) and it leaves City bottom of the standings with 1 point from 4 games.

 

City started their season with a 2-0 home defeat to Sundowns, they also lost 3-2 at Swallows and 2-1 at Amazulu.

 

Stellenbosch

 

Stellies were also excellent last season and they have carried on the good work, unbeaten with 1 win and 2 draws. They took a point from a 0-0 draw away to Gallants first up and then drew 1-1 at home to Pirates. Their first win came last weekend when they saw off Royal AM 3-1 in a home fixture and they are 2 points off the early pace in the standings.

 

Recent Head to Head

 

Last season's league meetings were both won by Stellenbosch, 1-0 and 3-0.

 

 

The Betting

 

In the early betting Cape Town City are trading at around 1.22/1 to win the game with the draw at 19/10 and Stellenbosch can be backed at around 5/2

 

A game of 3 goals or more is 15/10 and it's 11/10 for both teams to score.

The Verdict

 

Eric Tinkler may be feeling the heat at City after their poor start. They also began last season with some below par efforts but they need that first win sooner rather than later and Stellies are no pushovers.

 

It's a tricky call and I will speculate that Stellies might just edge it.
