football.soccercityThe Soweto derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates takes place at the FNB Stadium on Saturday and coming into the game it's the Bucs who are in the better form.

Kaizer Chiefs

Chiefs finished the previous round of matches in fifth spot in the standings with a record of 8 wins, 4 draws and 6 defeats for 28 log points. That puts them all of 27 points behind league leaders Sundowns who looked nailed on for another title but they are only 5 shy of second placed Supersport and 3 behind Pirates and Richards Bay.

Since the turn of the year Chiefs have played 6 league games and 4 have ended in defeat including a 3-2 loss at home to Arrows last time out. Their only recent league win came 2-0 at home to Royal AM and they also played out a 0-0 draw with TS Galaxy.

Orlando Pirates

Pirates have 9 wins, 4 draws and 7 defeats against their name. In contrast to Chiefs they have won 4 of their last 5 and their only recent defeat came against champions elect Sundowns.

Although catching Sundowns will be impossible Pirates (and Chiefs) will both be targeting a runners up finish come the end of the season as that carries the prize of CAF Champions League football next season.

Recent Head to Head

The first league meeting this season came at the end of October and Chiefs win it 1-0 thanks to a second half goal from Yusuf Maart.

Both of last season's head to heads finished 2-1 in favour of Chiefs

The Betting

In the early betting Chiefs are trading at around 16/10 to win the game with the draw at 18/10 and Pirates can be backed at around 1.95/1

A games of 3 goals or more in total is priced at 1.55/1 and it's 11/10 for both teams to score.

The Verdict

Chiefs have had the better of the recent head to heads but their current form has to be a huge concern. It's still very much a game of high stakes, the last 7 head to heads in the league have been settled by 1 goal exactly so it's a while since we have seen a draw.

It's a tricky game to call and handling the atmosphere will be key. I will go with current form and Pirates to edge it by a single goal.

Bet: Pirates to win by 1 goal exactly at 36/10 with Betway (click on the banner below to open an account and claim a first deposit bonus)
