The second of the Uefa Champions League semi finals sees Bayern Munich start as firm favourites for their clash with Lyon on Wednesday night.
Lyon
Lyon were the 10/1 outsiders for their quarter final clash with Manchester City last week but they defied the odds to come out on top 3-1. Cornet gave them a first half lead and although City equalized on 69 minutes Dembele punished City's slack defending with 2 late goals to put Lyon through.
Before the upset win over City Lyon put in a tremendous effort in the Round of 16 to stun Juventus, going through on away goals after a 1-0 home win and 2-1 defeat in Turin.
Despite their heroic's against 2 of the big guns Lyon remain outsiders in the outright betting to lift the trophy at around 16/1. They had a very average season in Ligue 1 which was shortened and they edged their way through the UCL group stage with 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats to finish as runners up to Leipzig with Benfica and Zenit missing out.
Bayern Munich
Bayern were pitched against Barcelona in the quarter finals last week and although they were even money favourites to win the game nobody could have predicted a final score of 8-2. The goals came from Müller (2),Perisic,Gnabry, Kimmich,Lewandowski and Coutinho (2) in an amazing show of dominance which saw Bayern elevated to favourites in the outright betting at around 11/20. Note those odds will change as the first semi final gets underway 24 hours before this game kicks off.
Bayern boast a 100% record in the Champions League this season and the goals continue to flow. They have found the net 39 times in 9 UCL matches including a 7-1 aggregate win over Chelsea in the Round of 16. Bayern also coasted to the Bundesliga title and recently won the DFB Pokal, beating Leverkusen 4-2 in the final.
The Betting
Lyon can be backed at around 10/1 to win in 90 minutes with the draw available at 23/4 and you should find odds of around 2/9 for Bayern to win in regulation time.
As far as the goals markets are concerned it's 15/20 for both sides to find the net in 90 minutes and 7/20 for over 2.5 goals and 8/10 for over 3.5 goals.
Verdict:
The odds for this game are very similar to those chalked up for Lyon's quarter final with Manchester City and given the French side also knocked Juve out, they certainly don't mind being cast in the roll of underdogs. However I'll be very surprised if Bayern fluff their lines here and I see goals with both halves over 1.5 being the pick.
