WSB Logo Orange 80x80Australia take on Afghanistan in a crucial ICC Cricket World Cup match in Wankhede on Tuesday and we take a look at the game from a betting angle.

India are currently the 1/1 favourites to win the Cricket World Cup ahead of Australia at 7/2, South Africa 4/1 and New Zealand at 9/1. You can get 25/1 Pakistan and 125/1 on Afghanistan.

Australia are currently 3rd on the log on 10 points from their 7 matches, Afghanistan sit 6th on the log on 8 points from 7 games, but if they win this they can pull level with Australia on points.

AUSTRALIA

Australia played England in Ahmedabad in their last match and after England won the toss and elected to field, they managed to score 286 runs before been bowled out in the 50th over. They lost early wickets, but 71 from Marnus Labuschagne at a strike rate of 85 gave other opportunities to batsmen around him with Smith and Green getting into the 40’s.

Australia’s bowling stint began in perfect fashion with Starc getting Bairstow first ball and England quickly fell behind the run rate and were eventually bowled out for 253 in the 49th over giving Australia a victory by 33 runs.

Most of the Australian bowlers got amongst the wickets, but Adam Zampa was the pick of the bunch with 3 for 21 off his 10 overs.

AFGHANISTAN

Afghanistan were up against the Netherlands in their last match and the Netherlands won the toss and decided to bat. Afghanistan quickly had them in trouble, but the Netherlands recovered and at 73 for 1 looked to be set for a decent score. Four run-outs proved their undoing though and Afghanistan bowled them out for 179 with Mohammad Nabi getting 3 for 28 off 9.3 overs.

Afghanistan were never troubled as they reached a 181 for 3 in the 32nd over with Shahidi top scoring with 56 not out and there was also a 52 from Rahmat Shah.

Australia 1/5

Afghanistan 15/4

Suggested Bet: Afghanistan Total at First Dismissal under 23.5 runs at 17/20

Afghanistan openers have performed well in this World Cup, but I think they are going to find the Australian opening bowlers a real handful whether they are chasing or setting a target they are going to be under pressure to get runs early and I think the wicket will come.

Suggested Bet: Top Batsman, Travis Head at 26/10

With Australia such firm favourites for the game they not surprisingly dominate this market and I am looking for Travis Head, a late comer into the squad, to show the sort of form he did when he made his Tournament debut against New Zealand scoring 109.
