Australia will be looking to take a 2-0 lead in the 5 match Ashes series when they host England in Adelaide in a Day/Night Test on Thursday and we take a look at the match from a betting angle.
The draw was as short as 2/1 for the 1st Test in Brisbane and there had been plenty of rain to the build up to the Test and more was expected. In the end though Australia made short work of the English, losing the toss on Day 1, but then bowling England out for 147.
For the English none of their batsmen reached the 50 mark and all of the Australian bowlers were on song with Pat Cummins the pick with 5 for 38. Australian then batted and while David Warner fell just short of a 100, Travis Head top scored with 152 runs at more than a run a ball. His innings came at a critical time as England appeared to have fought their way back into the encounter only for all hope to be swiftly snuffed out. The English quick men impressed and Ollie Robinson with his 3 for 58 in 23 overs was probably the pick of the bowlers, but there were also good efforts from Woakes and Wood.
England put up a better fight in their 2nd innings getting bowled out for 297, but they would have been disappointed with their late collapse after Dawid Malan and Joe Root both scored 80’s to put them back into the match with an outside chance.
Australia knocked off the 20 runs required for victory losing 1 wicket in the process.
In the 4 matches still to play Australia have shortened into 1/8 to win the series with the draw now 12/1 and England on offer at 9/1 – click here for series markets

Australia 4/7
Draw 6/1
England 28/10
For those who enjoy backing shorter prices I certainly wouldn’t discourage you taking the 4/7 Australia that they win this day/night Test match. Their bowling attack looks on song and their batsmen in better form than their English rivals.
My preference though is to look to some of the other markets on offer for a betting interest.
SELECTIONS:
Top England Bat 1st innings, Malan at 4/1
It is hard to make a case for any of the other batsmen besides Joe Root who is a firm favourite here at 15/10. While I wouldn’t argue the fact that Root is the market leader getting almost three times the price on Malan looks the better value and let’s hope he can kick on from his impressive knock in the English 2nd innings in Brisbane.
Top English Bowler, Robinson at 33/10
Anderson and Broad are both expected to play and they are 5/2 and 33/10 respectively. While both should thrive in the conditions we at least know that Robinson is fully fit and he certainly impressed for long spells in Brisbane.
Top Australian Batsman, Warner at 3/1
Smith at 7/4 and Labuschagne at 11/4 are the market leaders, but I was impressed with Warner who looked in good nick in compiling his 94 runs in the 1st innings of the first Test. In a Test match where I expect wickets to fall regularly I am keen to back someone who is going to accumulate runs quickly.
