Let’s start with a quick check in for the DSTV Premiership Outright winner where Sundowns are trading at 15/10 favourites ahead of Kaizer Chiefs at 33/10. You can get 13/2 Orlando Pirates and 12/1 and better the balance.

FRIDAY

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS v AMAZULU

These sides finished first and second on the log respectively last season and both were in action last week in the MTN8 Cup quarter-finals. Sundowns got the better of Kaizer Chiefs on penalties to progress to the last 4 but AmaZulu lost 2-1 at home to Cape Town City.

Last season this fixture finished 4-3 to Sundowns and the reverse match at AmaZulu finished 0-0.

Sundowns 6/10

Draw 53/20

AmaZulu 5/1

Suggested Bet: Over 2.5 goals at 13/10

This is by no means a confident call, overs never is in the PSL, but looking back at the history between these sides over the years there has often been goals and I am hoping for an exciting start to the season.

SATURDAY

ORLANDO PIRATES v STELLENBOSCH

Orlando Pirates finished 3rd in the League last season, a distant 17 points behind winners Mamelodi Sundowns. They face a Stellenbosch side that was involved in the relegation battle eventually finishing 14th out of 16 teams having drawn their last 4 matches.

Pirates were in action over the last couple of weekends beating Kaizer Chiefs in the Carling Cup pre-season opener (on penalties) and last week they were beaten 2-1 by Swallows in the MTN8 Cup.

This will be Stellenbosch’s first competitive action since the League ended back in June.

Pirates 9/10

Draw 39/20

Stellenbosch 4/1

Suggested Bet: Pirates win at 9/10

This is likely to be a low scoring affair if head-to-head clashes is anything to go by as last season we had a goalless draw and a 1-1 between the sides and in the last 6 matches in all competitions between the teams we have yet to see 3 goals scored. The price of under 2.5 goals is shorter at 9/20 and I prefer Pirates to win as I fancy that despite last week’s loss they will have a good season.

CAPE TOWN CITY v SUPERSPORT UNITED

Cape Town City were 7th in the PSL last season with SuperSport finishing 5th. Both were in MTN8 Cup action last week with Cape Town City beating AmaZulu 2-1 away and SuperSport going down on penalties to Golden Arrows on the road.

Cape Town City won this fixture 3-0 last season and SuperSport won the reverse fixture 2-1 at home.

Cape Town City 16/10

Draw 21/10

SuperSport United 19/10

Suggested Bet: Over 2.5 goals at 23/20

Cape Town City games were the highest scoring in the PSL last season. These sides often bring the best out of each other with over 2.5 goals having arrived in the last 3 of 4 meetings.

SUNDAY

TS GALAXY v KAIZER CHIEFS

Galaxy made an impressive start to their life in the Premier League finishing 9th last season and Kaizer Chiefs won their last 2 matches to finish 1 position above them in 8th on goal difference. Galaxy play their first competitive match since the League ended and Chiefs were beaten on penalties last week by Mamelodi Sundowns, but did see off Pirates in the Cup friendly also on penalties the week before.

TS Galaxy 23/10

Draw 22/10

Chiefs 13/10

Suggested Bet: Both teams to score, NO, at 23/20

There was only 1 goal between these sides in the 2 matches last season and I am expecting a tight and probably low scoring affair.
