The DSTV Premiership is back and we take a look at Friday night’s opener between Sekhukhune and Mamelodi Sundowns and also have a look at the Outright Betting heading into the new season.
Mamelodi Sundowns go in search of their 7th consecutive Title and the bookmakers expect them to deliver the goods for their fans with their current price of 4/10 to win the Title. Orlando Pirates are distant 2nd favourites at 13/2 with Kaizer Chiefs 9/1 and you can get 14/1 SuperSport United and 25/1 Cape Town City.
I suspect that if Sundowns make a strong start to the season it won’t be long before we see “Betting without Sundowns” Markets.
4/10 is a bit short for me to tie my money up for such a long season, but if I were to pick a team from the challengers to make a run at Sundowns it would probably be Kaizer Chiefs priced at 9/1. Chiefs are coming off a poor season but there were signs that they are ready to end an 8 year trophy drought and they can benefit from the fact that Pirates and SuperSport United will be playing in Africa which will certainly stretch their resources.

SEKHUKHUNE v SUNDOWNS
Sekhukhune United finished 7th last season with an equal split of wins, draws and losses across their 30 matches. A mid-table or Top 8 finish certainly looks a possibility for them, but they couldn’t have asked for a tougher start to the season than the defending Champions first up.
Mamelodi Sundowns ran away with the Title, winning by 16 points after taking their foot off the gas a bit once the job was done. They only lost 2 matches all season and incredibly in 30 matches only conceded 13 goals and it is their defence which really sets them apart from the rest of the PSL.
Head-to-Head
These sides have met 4 times in the PSL with Mamelodi Sundowns winning 3 and Sekhukhune managing to get a 1-1 draw out of this fixture last season. Under 2.5 goal backers would have collected profits in all 3 matches.

Sekhukhune 15/4
Draw 9/4
Sundowns 17/20
Sundowns like Pirates and SuperSport will have a big workload this season and they have shown in the past that getting out of the blocks quickly is no problem and I am more than happy to take the current 17/20 on offer that they bag 3 points first up against a game but probably outclassed Sekhukhune side.
Suggested Bet: Mamelodi Sundowns win at 17/20
