BettingDiaryA South African “A” side will take on the British & Irish Lions side at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday in what many are now describing as a 4th Test Match.

With the 2nd test against Georgia being cancelled last weekend, the South African management have decided to give a lot of their top players a much needed run out for this match. An “A” side is usually filled with young up and coming players, but with the likes of Lukhanyo Am captaining the side alongside the likes of Faf de Klerk, Cheslin Kolbe and Eben Etzebeth, you know that this is a serious team.

The Lions are now in Cape Town after starting their tour in Gauteng where they had 3 convincing victories. They opened with a comfortable 56-14 win over the Lions and then hammered the Sharks 54-7 also in Johannesburg. Their stiffest test came in their 3rd match, also against the Sharks at Loftus where at half-time the score was 26-26, but a red card for the Sharks ruined the contest somewhat and the Lions ran out 40 point winners with over 100 points scored in the match.

South Africa “A” 13/10

Draw 25/1

British & Irish Lions 8/11

Handicap: S.A. “A” (+2.5) at 9/10, B&I Lions (-2.5) at 9/10

Suggested Bet: Handicap, British and Irish Lions (-2.5) at 9/10

This should be a great contest, but the fact that key Springboks are being played here is a reflection of just how disjointed their preparation has been. I suspect the Lions will be too strong in the end and will do their best work in the second-half to win by 3 points or more.
