BettingDiaryFootball fans get a well-deserved rest on Thursday with both AFCON 2019 and the FIFA Women’s World Cup taking a break.  We take a look at some of the other betting options available on Thursday including the Cricket World Cup.

CRICKET WORLD CUP

We are fast approaching the business end of the Cricket World Cup and Thursday’s game is very much a dead rubber between two sides who are not going to make the playoffs.  Afghanistan have punched above their weight at times in this Tournament, but they are still to register a victory while inconsistency has been the West Indies enemy.  You can click here for our full match preview where we have put up top bowler bets for each team.  As far as the match betting goes West Indies are short-priced favourites at 1/4 with Afghanistan 3/1 to cause an upset.

WIMBLEDON

Round 2 matches continue on Thursday and in the women’s draw Serena Williams and Ashleigh Barty are amongst 2 of the big names taking to the court.  They are very short in the betting at 2/13 and 1/11 respectively and the advice is to find 2 or 3 more short-priced favourites and to load them into a multiple.

The Men’s side of the draw is similar with most of the betting heats looking one-sided, but if you stick Nadal, Simon, Querrey, Nishikori and Djokovic in a multiple all to win their games you will get 1/1.

GOLF

The European Tour and the PGA Tour both continue this week and in Europe we have the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open where last week’s runner-up Jon Rahm heads the betting at 8/1 ahead of Ryder star, Tommy Fleetwood priced at 14/1.  The top South African on the betting boards is Louis Oosthuizen at 20/1 and last week’s winner Christiaan Bezuidenhout can be backed at a huge 80/1.  It is great to see so many South Africans featuring on the European Tour and this week we have a sneaky feeling about Justin Harding priced at 80/1 a win and 16/1 a place.

Brooks Koepka heads the betting at 7/1 in the 3M Open in America with Jason Day and a back to form Hideki Matsuyama priced at 10/1.  Bryson Dechambeau is showing signs of getting back to form and he is 14/1 and you can get 22/1 and better about the rest.  There is no real South African interest towards the top of the betting boards especially given that Rory Sabbatini 33/1 has jumped ship and is now a Slovakian.  Sabbatini’s game is certainly going through something of a renaissance and he has had 3 Top 5’s in his last 7 starts and could well be worth an each way play at 33/1. Our interest though is in the 1st round leader market where we fancy veteran Phil Mickelson for a fast start and the 1st round lead at 55/1.

HORSE RACING

Local Horse Racing is at the Vaal on Thursday with a 9 race card starting at 12.05 pm and ending at 16.55 pm.

You can click here to see Horse Racing markets from around the world and hopefully you can build up a kitty for the Durban July which takes place on Saturday.

In the big race the favourite Hawwaam has drifted slightly to 12/5 from 21/10, but the top 4 in the betting remains fairly stable with Do It Again 4/1 and Rainbow Bridge and Barahin at 7/1.

Look out for our Betting Preview on the big race which will be published on the WSB Blog tonight and you can click here for betting on the Durban July.

SUPER RUGBY FINAL

After some initial support on the handicap for the Jaguares saw the handicap move from (+13.5) to (+12.5) the betting seems fairly stable for Saturday’s Super Rugby Final.  We are starting to get the feeling that we are in for a close match and expect to see punters backing the Crusaders to win by under 12.5 points in the winning margin market and that is currently priced at 16/10.
