WSB Logo Orange 80x80F1 heads to North America this week and we gear up for the Canadian GP. We look at this week’s race from a betting angle and offer up a couple of suggested bets for your consideration.

PREVIOUS RACE – Spanish GP

The Spanish GP saw another dominant performance from McLaren, as they secured a one-two finish with Oscar Piastri taking the win and Lando Norris coming in second. Charles Leclerc completed the podium in third, while George Russell finished fourth.

CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

Oscar Piastri                    186 points

Lando Norris                     176 points

Max Verstappen              137 points

George Russell                111 points

It is getting to a stage where the Drivers’ Championship is becoming Piastri v Norris, Mclaren v Mclaren. The bookies have Piastri at 1.60 to win the Championship while Norris is trading at 2.75 for the win.

CONSTRUCTORS CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

McLaren             362 points

Ferrari                  165 points

Mercedes           159 points

Red Bull              144 points

We continue to look at the Constructors Championship “winner without McLaren” market. Ferrari have jumped up into the lead (in the race for 2nd) from third after two good results in the last race. The bookies have them at 2.00 to win while Mercedes are trading at 2.60 and Red Bull are trading at 4.30.

Canadian GP 2024

Last year’s race saw Max Verstappen win his 3rd successive Canadian GP. Lando Norris was 2nd just under 4 seconds back and George Russell narrowly beat his teammate Hamilton (who has won this race 7 times) to the podium.

VERDICT

Piastri has already won five races so far this season and does not look like he will be slowing down any time soon. In last year’s Canadian GP, he finished behind his teammate Norris but I can see him turning the tables this weekend.

Suggested Bet: Oscar Piastri to win at 2.35.

Alonso finished in 6th place at last year’s Canadian GP having finished 2nd in 2023 and showing how familiar he is with the track. He is also coming off the back of a 9th place finish at his home GP two weeks ago and so with the momentum and track form, I think he will be able to deliver another points finish this weekend.

Suggested Bet: Fernando Alonso points finish at 2.20.
