WSB Logo Orange 80x80The Hero World Challenge takes place at the Albany Course in New Providence, The Bahamas this weekend and we have put together a betting strategy to take on the bookmakers in this limited field event.

The Hero World Challenge has taken place at the Albany Course in the Bahamas since 2015 and 8 of the Top 15 golfers in the world take part this week which also sees the return of host Tiger Woods.

THE COURSE

The Albany Course is a Par 72 and was designed by South Africa’s, Ernie Els and it is fairly unique in that it has 5 Par 5’s, 5 par 3’s and 8 par 4’s. The course has a link like feel to it with some huge sand dunes and the greens are on the small side.

BETTING

Viktor Hovland is the two time defending Champions and he is the 4/1 favourite to get a hat trick with Scottie Scheffler priced at 5/1. Tiger Woods is the rank outsider in the field at 80/1 for a win and you can get just under 13/1 that he runs into the Top 4.

There are plenty of betting options for punters and if you think Hovland and Scheffler can finish 1st or 2nd (in any order) you can get 10/1 in the dual forecast betting and if you want to be more specific a Hovland-Scheffler 1-2 finish for the 3rd year in success is priced at 22/1 in the straight forecast market

SELECTIONS:

Max Homa each way at 8/1

Homa played his first tournament since the Ryder Cup two weeks ago at Sun City in the Nedbank Golf Challenge and I expected him to be a bit rusty for that one, but he played some superb golf to win the Tournament and if holding that kind of form should be a big runner here, although he was slightly disappointing last year finishing 17th on debut.

Matt Fitzpatrick each way at 20/1

There is no doubt that the Top 3 in the betting Hovland, Scheffler and Morikawa are all big runners and have excellent course form particularly Hovland and Scheffler who have finished 1 and 2 respectively for the last two years.

Fitzpatrick as been solid here with two Top 15 finishes and I was impressed by what I saw of him in the second-half of the season.

Brian Harman each way at 40/1

Harman is something of a sentimental choice as I was on him at triple figure odds when he won the Open Championship earlier this year. Up until then he was seen very much as a journeyman golfer and although he makes his debut in this Tournament I don’t think he can be taken lightly.

Harman doesn’t strike you as the sort of player who got carried away with his success at the Open Championship and I am expecting his game to be in good shape for this one.

Tournament Winning Margin, 3 strokes or more at 21/20

Being an end of season (players more likely to mentally switch off when out of contention) and a limited field event I think there is every chance we get a runaway winner.
