Race 1:

SERENA SLAM has shown good improvement in each of her outings to date. She should have won last time as she hung in the latter stages. She finished 0.25 lengths behind NO NAME BRAND in her penultimate effort and is 1.5kgs better off at the weights. The daughter of Global View is a progressive type and if keeping on a straight line, she can shed her maiden tag.

GREY OCEAN was in need of his comeback run over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He should strip a much fitter horse and merits healthy respect.

NO NAME BRAND is much better than his last start on the polytrack. His two starts prior to that outing were good. S’manga Khumalo takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

Race 2:

LHASA STAR was running on too late when finishing third over 1000m on this course, three weeks ago. The daughter of Potala Palace finished third in her only attempt over this distance. She does have a wide draw to overcome, but is likely to switch off near the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

DRAGON QUEEN hails from the visiting Paul Peter stable. Her last two starts after returning from a 16-week break have been good. She should be cherry-ripe and if all went well with her travels, she should be competitive.

LEOPARD LADY showed good improvement when finishing 0.05 lengths behind the top choice last time. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests she will enjoy the extra furlong on offer. From her good draw of three, she should go close.

Race 3:

RAISEAHALLELUJAH is lightly raced with good form to his credit. It must be noted that the horse that finished third last time has come out and won since. The son of Querari should love the extra distance on offer today. With a bit of luck from his wide draw, he can shed his maiden tag.

CORAL COPY is much better than his last start as the jockey reported something to be amiss. His penultimate run when finishing second over 1950m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville catches the eye. He should love the extra distance on offer and must be included in all bets.

COMMAND COUNCIL’S last two starts with the blinkers fitted have been good, but he has had to switch at a crucial stage in both efforts. It is encouraging that Richard Fourie retains the ride and with a bit of luck in running, he should go close to winning.

Race 4:

Bproduced a decent comeback run over a mile on the Polytrack. The manner in which he finished off his race that day caught the eye. The son of Dynasty jumps from pole position and should strip a much fitter horse. If keeping on a straight line, he can return to winning ways.

SAINT PHILIP was ridden to perfection when winning the Non-Black Type Highland Night Cup. He gets the services of a 4kgs claiming apprentice this afternoon and if repeating that effort, may be hard to peg back.

DREAM DESTINY finished 0.2 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 3kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the tables. However, he gets the services of S’manga Khumalo who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

Race 5:

RAINBOW BRIDGE was given a peach of a ride when winning the Grade 1 Cape Town Met last time. He makes his return after a well-deserved 13-week break. The 6yo gelding has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. If not in need of the run, he should notch up his tenth career victory.

GOLDEN DUCAT is much better than his last start in the race referred to above. He produced top form prior to that outing. He won his only attempt over this distance and if fit and well, he should give his stable companion a run for his money.

CATCH TWENTYTWO should have finished closer in the Grade 1 SA Classic last time as he hung in the latter stages. He has won twice from three starts over this distance. He takes on older rivals this afternoon and if keeping on a straight line, he should go close.

Race 6:

CAPTAIN’S RANSOM has been ultra-impressive in her last two victories, both of which were Grade 1 races. The daughter of Captain Al returns from a well-deserved 13-week break this afternoon. She is a class above the rest of this field and should notch up her sixth career win.

PRINCESS CALLA won a good race in her last start at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. She has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this distance. If switching off early, she should be one of leading contenders for the placings.

ZARINA ran on powerfully to win the Grade 3 Prix Du Cap last time. She finished 4.6 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate effort. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.

Race 7:

KOMMETDIEDING is unbeaten from four starts to date. He was ultra-impressive when winning the Grade 3 Politician Stakes last time. The son of Elusive Fort is a high-quality sort and if suited to the right-hand turn, he should keep his unbeaten record intact.

MK’S PRIDE won a good race last time beating subsequent Grade 1 winner, Got The Greenlight. The son of Willow Magic finished second in his only attempt over this distance. He jumps from pole position and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

LINEBACKER was super-impressive when winning the Grade 1 Cape Derby last time. He has finished second twice from as many starts over this distance. He has cracked a good draw this afternoon and merits healthy respect.

Race 8:

THIRD RUNWAY showed good signs of a form return when finishing second over a mile on this course, five weeks ago. She has won three times from five starts over this distance. Anton Marcus retains the ride and in this type of field, she can go one better.

JASMINE is the stable companion of the top choice. She ran a good race when finishing third in the Grade 2 Golden Slipper. She returns from a 40-week break during which time she would have strengthened up. She looks to have ability and if not in need of the run, she should go close.

DANCING FEATHER has good consistent form lines to her credit. She has finished third twice from as many starts over this C&D. She faces her toughest test to date, but carries a handy galloping mass and may be up to the task at hand.

Race 9

PRINCE OF TARANTO was impressive when winning his maiden over this C&D. Despite losing a length at the start, he drew off well for the victory. The son of Crusade makes his handicap debut today, but is lightly raced and looks to have scope.

MIDNIGHT BADGER showed good improvement in his last start over this distance at the Vaal. He has won once, finished second three times and third twice from ten starts over this distance. He jumps from pole position and if keeping on a straight line, he should pose a threat.

STORM CHASER is much better than his last start in the Grade 3 Byerley Turk. His form prior to that outing was decent. Richard Fourie takes the ride this afternoon and from his good draw of three, he may be hard to peg back.

Race 10

GREENLIGHTTOHEAVEN’S last two starts have been good. He was his own worst enemy last time as he overraced in the early stages. He meets the right field this afternoon and if switching off early, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

FLY THE COUP followed up his debut win with a good third-place finish over 1200m on the Polytrack. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Coup De Grace tries the turf for the first time and if suited to the surface, he should pose a threat.

THE BAYOU should have finished closer last time as he hung in the latter stages. He has won twice, finished second three times and third twice from 13 starts on this course. If not in need of the run, he should go close
