Race 1
TRES CHIC is seldom far off the action and has finished second in her last two runs, the latest when 0.75 lengths behind the winner over 1250m. She finished well from some way back that day and if able to keep more in touch here, she could be hard to topple.
STRATA has started favourite six times in a row and remains a maiden after ten starts. She steps up to six furlongs again, but her record of one third from two starts is hardly encouraging. Nevertheless she could get it right today.
F EIGHT finished second in her latest outing over seven furlongs, 2.75 lengths back from the winner and retains the services of Richard Fourie, which is a plus.
Race 2
LOVE SHACK showed solid improvement to finish second last time out over 1250m, 0.5 lengths behind the victor and if she has continued down that same path she could break her maiden at the seventh time of asking.
PRINCESS VIRGINIE finished second on debut over five furlongs and then seventh next time out when trying 1250m, 4.25 lengths back from the winner. She overraced and hung over the closing 200m, so she had her excuses. Richard Fourie jumps aboard and from pole position, she should be right up there when they hit the line.
HANGING ROCK stayed on nicely when finishing fourth in her latest start over seven furlongs, 3.45 lengths behind the winner. She should be doing her best work late.
Race 3
CELTIC CHIEF stayed on well when finishing third last time out over 1600m, 1.9 lengths off the winner. The colt was bumped in his penultimate start and a repeat of either of his other two runs would see him in the winner’s box.
PETTEIA returns from a 21-week break, but the gelding has finished second in his last two starts, the latest over seven furlongs, just a neck behind the winner. He has his first run in Cape Town but it is encouraging that Richard Fourie retains the ride.
KING OF SPIN cost himself valuable ground when coming wide into the home straight to finish fourth over 1250m, 2.65 lengths back from the winner. He will have to negotiate a wide gate thirteen, but he should appreciate the extra ground on offer today.
Race 4
CLOUD CHASER stayed on well when finishing second last time out over a mile, 1.25 lengths behind the winner. She seems to be at her best over the mile and could build on that last effort.
GREEN VALKYRIE made good late progress to finish seventh last time out over seven furlongs, 2.9 lengths adrift of the victor and on that effort, she seems likely to appreciate the extra ground on offer today.
NORDIC QUEST finished fifth in her last start when trying the seven furlongs for the first time, 3.4 lengths behind the winner, but she was staying on well that day and whilst drawn wide in gate twelve, she should still be involved in the finish.
Race 5
FAMILY POWER has finished second in her last two starts, the latest over nine furlongs, 2.5 lengths back from the victor. She takes on ten furlongs for the first time, but there appears to be no reason that she will not see it out and with Richard Fourie in the saddle, she could go one better here.
ENGLISH MISTRESS gets the blinkers fitted for the first time and has not finished too far off the winner in her last two outings, the latest when third over nine furlongs, 3.25 lengths off the winner. If this move has the desired effect, she should be involved in the finish.
SANSA STARK had to be steadied at the 300m mark, but then stayed on well to finish fourth last time out over nine furlongs, 4.25 lengths behind the winner. On that effort, she should have little problem getting the extra ground on offer here.
Race 6
MASTEROFALLSTORMS has posted two solid last runs and was bumped during his last outing over ten furlongs before finishing second 3.5 lengths behind the winner. He gets a cosy draw two and will be looking to go one better today.
LOCKHEEDLIGHTNING has his second run after a rest after staying on well to finish fourth last time out over nine furlongs, 3.95 lengths behind the winner and should have no problem going over the extra ground.
MARSHALL FIELD finished fourth the only time he ventured over this trip 0.8 lengths back from the winner and a repeat of that effort would see him in the winner’s box.
Race 7
ROYAL SWAN MASTER has won and finished second twice in his three runs to date, the latest second over this trip, 1.75 lengths behind the winner in his first run in Cape Town. He jumps from a handy draw two and could be the one that they all have to beat.
OLIVER has consistent formlines to his name, winning his penultimate start over seven furlongs and then finishing third next time out over the same trip, 2.05 lengths back from the winner. He is not without a chance in this line-up.
BRISTOL HERCULES won over this trip in KZN in his penultimate start and has his first run in Cape Town. If fully settled into his new surroundings and with Richard Fourie up, he could trouble the locals.
Race 8
SHIFTING PATH won his last start over 1250m on an objection, this after being hampered over the latter stages. The blinkers are removed for today’s run and if this has the expected result, he could be good enough to secure the double.
MIGHTY MAC was the original winner of the race mentioned above, but his actions cost him the victory in the boardroom. He does meet the former on 1kg better terms today which should allow that result to be “reversed”, but the former may still get the better of the latter in a race void of interference.
LIKETHECLAPPERS has a poor draw to deal with, but he is seldom far off the action, winning his penultimate start over this trip and then finishing second last time out over the same C&D, 2.5 lengths back from the winner. Stable jockey Grant van Niekerk retains the ride and he should be right up there when they hit the line.
Race 9
SWIFT ACTION returns from a 29-week spell, but finished third last time out over six furlongs, just behind the winner, despite being bumped in the running.
GREAT CAT followed up his maiden victory over 1250m with a second-place finish next time out over five furlongs, two lengths off the winner. He stayed on well in that event and another honest run can be expected today.
BONANZA finished fourth last time out over five furlongs, 3.55 lengths behind the winner, but he was reported to have made a respiratory noise that day. The gelding is having his peak run and should be involved in the finish.
Race 10
PALO QUEEN won her penultimate start over five furlongs and then finished fourth next time out over the same C&D, 3.25 lengths off the winner, but she injured her mouth in that event, so she had her excuse.
SHE’S MY CAPTAIN showed solid improvement when finishing third last time out over 1000m, 2.5 lengths back from the winner when returning from a rest and it is encouraging that Richard Fourie retains the ride.
WINTER RAINFALL lost a length when ending up in seventh spot last time out over five furlongs, 4.65 lengths behind the winner. If jumping on terms today, she should trouble the top two picks
