Race 1 

CRYSTAL GROVE was an easy winner on debut over this C&D. She was slow into stride, ran on well and drew off in the run down to the line. She was reported to have cast a shoe in running that day which makes the victory that much more encouraging. The daughter of The United States looks to have some class about her and can remain unbeaten.

ARASHI won a good race in her last start over this C&D. The daughter of Legislate is coming along the right way and she may be hard to peg back.

KING HARALD is an unraced son of Erik The Red from the Roy Magner stable and Gavin Lerena is booked to ride. He is related to multiple Grade 1 winner Lucky Lad. If not too green, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to him and the other unraced entrants.

Race 2

PUMPKIN PIE produced a promising debut effort over 1160m on this course. He jumped inwards leaving the start and stayed on at the finish. The son of Buffalo Bill Cody would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1400m. With the natural improvement that is expected, he may be the one to beat in this line-up.

CAPE SAFFRON has produced two decent efforts to date. It must be noted that the horse that finished second in her last outing has come out and won since. She has plenty of scope and is one of the leading contenders.

WEARINGOFTHEGREEN returns from a 21-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter of Kingman has scope and if jumping on terms, she can show.

Race 3

TIPPERARY showed pace over 1160m last time before getting outrun late by Dupont Emerald. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber steps up to 1400m and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she should be hard to peg back.

INTRO has fair recent form lines to her credit. She jumps from a good draw of two and is one of the leading contenders. She is carded to race on 06 March 2025 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

SHEETS AND GOGGLES is having her first run for the Fanie Bronkhorst stable. She was doing her best work late when fourth over 1200m on the Fairview polytrack last time. If settled into her new surroundings, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 4

GREEN SAPPHIRE was doing her best work late when second over 1200m on the Inside course last time. She has won twice and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. She is drawn widest of all, but gets the services of Gavin Lerena who will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

ALESIA’S LOVE finished 0.4 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.

HONG KONG is better than her last start over 1400m. Her first two career outings over this C&D were good. She is carded to race on 06 March 2025 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

 

 

Race 5

KEY WORKER won a good race in her last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. She has won once and finished second once from three starts on this course. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight jumps from a good draw of three and can follow up with another victory.

QUEEN OF LOVE was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over 1600m on this course. The daughter of Rafeef should have no issues with the extra distance on offer. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, she should fight out the finish.

ANCIENT WISDOM followed up her easy maiden win with a good victory over 1800m on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She is in a good space and with luck in running, she can bring up the hat-trick.

Race 6

IMMEDIATE EDGE is unbeaten from two starts, the latest of which was over this distance on the Inside course. He won his last outing with ease after hitting the front at the 300m mark. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The son of Vercingetorix is loaded with ability and should take a power of beating.

WILD INTENT is better than his last start in the Grade 3 City Of Cape Town Politician Stakes. His form prior to that outing was good. The son of Gimmethegreenlight has ability and is one of the leading contenders.

ONE MORE STAR followed up his maiden victory with a good second-place finish over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. He set the pace that day before getting caught late by Silvano’s Song. Raymond Danielson is booked to ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 7

BATTLEGROUND finished 2.4 lengths behind MARAUDING HORDE last time. He is 4kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He has won once and finished third twice from six starts over this C&D. He is likely to be settled near the rear of the field from his wide draw and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

THUNEE PLAYA won a good race in the Listed 4Racing Dr Richard Maponya Handicap last time. He tries the 2400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he can follow up.

MARAUDING HORDE was an easy winner of his last start over this C&D. He finished 1.7 lengths behind the second choice in his penultimate run. He is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.

Race 9

ONE PARTY jumped awkwardly leaving the starting stalls last time, but stayed on to finish third. She meets a similar line-up this afternoon. S’manga Khumalo is booked to ride and she can notch up her second-career victory.

BLIZZARD SNOW was touched off in her last start over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course. She is back against her own sex and with Gavin Lerena back in the saddle, she can go one better.

DIVINE MOONLIGHT ran a fair race over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course last time. It must be noted that Night Vigil has come out and won again since. She drops back in class and Ryan Munger may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most
