Update, meeting abandoned
Race 1
LIGHTINTHESTORM ran a creditable race when third over 2000m on the Vaal Classic course last time. He lost a length leaving the start, but stayed on at the finish. The son of Gimmethegreenlight should have no issues with the rise to 2600m and he may be the one to side with. He is carded to race on 15 February 2025 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
THE MERCIFUL finished 2 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
SANTIAGO’S PRIDE is better than his last start as he was reported to be not striding out. If finding the form of his penultimate run, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest. He is carded to race on 15 February 2025 and his progress in that race will need to be followed.
Race 2
CHERRY OH BABY moved up well over this distance on the Standside course last time before getting outrun late. It must be noted that Gerbera has come out and won again since. The well-bred daughter of Danon Platina is coming along the right way and she can go one better.
MESSALINA tried hard when second over 1400m last time. The daughter of Querari is in a good space and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
GREEN STREET set the pace over 1400m last time, but found one too good in the form of Great Notion. She should love the rise to 1600m and the booking of Piere Strydom is a big plus. From her good draw of three, she may be hard to peg back.
Race 3
LUCKY LAD was doing his best work late when third in the Grade 1 HKJC World Pool Cape Flying Championship last time. He finished 0.2 lengths behind WILLIAM ROBERTSON, four runs ago. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He is likely to be settled at the rear of the field under Craig Zackey and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
WILLIAM ROBERTSON won a good race in his last start over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. The drop in trip is a slight concern, but he is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
QUANTUM THEORY ran a good race when second over 1160m last time. He has won once and finished second four times from eight starts on this course. The son of Querari should finish in the first three.
Race 4
DANCING DORA finished 0.95 lengths behind TOGETHER AGAIN last time. She is 4kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. With a bit of luck in running, she can return to winning ways. She is carded to race on 15 February 2025 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
TOGETHER AGAIN ran a good race when second over this C&D last time. Chase Maujean is likely to use her early gate speed from her awkward draw of eight and she may be hard to peg back.
PACIFIC finished 0.2 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
Race 5
FIRE ATTACK ran on from last when second in the Grade 3 Betway Got The Greenlight Stakes last time. The classy son of Fire Away will love the extra 100m on offer. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
WILD INTENT is better than his last start in the Grade 3 City Of Cape Town Politician Stakes. He finished third in his only attempt on this course. On his previous form, he may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
CALANTHA is lightly raced with good form lines to her credit. The daughter of Querari will love the rise to 1500m. She has ability and should give the males a run for their money.
Race 6
ONE MORE STAR followed up his maiden victory with a good second-place finish over 2000m on the Vaal Classic course. He set the pace that day before getting caught late by Silvano’s Song. The son of One World is in a good space and may be the one to beat from barrier three.
BANHA BRIDGE is better than his last start over 2400m on the Vaal Classic course. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from seven starts over this distance. The 8yo gelding merits healthy respect.
DIESEL’S SHADOW has consistent form lines to his credit. He won his only attempt over this C&D. He is carded to race on 13 February 2025 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
Race 7
TOTAL SURRENDER ran a good race when third over 2000m on the Standside course last time. He raced from a handy position and stayed on at the finish. He has won twice and finished second once from four starts over this distance. With a bit of luck in running, he can notch up his sixth-career victory.
KING’S EXPRESS finished 1.4 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result. He will strip a much fitter horse.
MAJESTIC PALACE tried hard when second over 1600m on the Standside course last time. He won his only attempt over this C&D. He is likely to race on the speed from his wide draw of 11 and he may be hard to peg back.
Race 8
DOITWITHDIAMONDS ran on strongly when second over this distance on the Standside course last time. She has won twice and finished second twice from five starts on this course. She is back against her own sex and with Gavin Lerena in the saddle, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
AVOONTOAST ran a good race when second over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time. She has finished third in both her efforts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
VULCANITE raced in feature races in her last two starts. She won her maiden over this C&D with ease. The daughter of Erupt drops back in class and despite her big mass of 63kgs, she should find a form return.
Race 9
SNEAK PREVIEW stayed on when second over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time but found one too good in the form of Secret Recipe. The daughter of Fire Away has won on this course previously. Kaidan Brewer retains the ride and the combination can go one better.
JUNIPER GREEN showed good improvement in her last start over 1160m on the Standside course. She raced from just off the pace, but found one too good in the form of Green Sapphire. She is carded to race on 18 February 2025 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
LAST GINGER fought hard for her last victory over 1450m on this course. She is in a good space and with luck in running, she can follow up with another victory
