ENGLAND v GERMANY

This match takes place at Wembley so it is effectively a home game for the English.

England topped their group scoring 2 goals and not conceding 1 in their 3 matches. They opened with a workmanlike 1-0 win over Croatia before being disappointing in drawing 0-0 with Scotland. They ended their group stages with a narrow 1-0 win over the Czech Republic thanks to an early goal.

Germany finished as runners-up to France in their group, but they certainly weren’t at their dominant best. They lost 1-0 to the French then beat Portugal 4-2 in a thrilling match before coming back to draw with Hungary 2-2.

England 13/8

Draw 9/4

Germany 19/10

Suggested Bet: How will the match be decided? Germany Penalty Shoot Out at 19/2

Suggested Bet: The Draw at 9/4

This is of course a speculative play as we have to get through 120 minutes with the sides remaining level, but given Germany’s history over England in big tournaments, I can see this being a tight, low scoring affair that may well go all the way and if that is the case I will be backing Germany’s big match temperament to prevail. As far as a 90 minute bet goes and perhaps something at more realistic odds I will take the 9/4 that we have a draw and head to extra time.

SWEDEN v UKRAINE

This match takes place in Glasgow.

Sweden topped their group with 7 points from a possible 9, but they remain 60/1 underdogs to win the trophy.

They opened with a goalless draw against Spain, a game where they were under the whip for long periods, but their defence held firm. They followed that match up with a 1-0 win over Slovakia and a 3-2 victory over Poland.

Ukraine are even bigger outsiders at 100/1 to win the Tournament and they were 1 of the 3rd placed teams to come through having lost 3-2 to the Netherlands, beaten North Macedonia 2-1 and then losing 1-0 to Austria.

Sweden 14/10

Draw 43/20

Ukraine 23/10

Suggested Bet: Sweden win at 14/10

I was impressed by Sweden in the group stages and I am a little bit surprised they are not firmer favourites to beat Ukraine who I think we’re very fortunate to get through in what was a fairly soft group.
