We head into the final round of the URC regular season with playoff positions still to be finalised and several sides battling to secure a place in the top eight. This blog will focus on all things betting related.

Bet: Munster v Lions

Posted 16 May 19h20

2 units under 47.5 points at 0.92/1 at BetXchange

Both of these sides are guaranteed playoff places, but this remains an important fixture in terms of final log position and momentum heading into the knockout stages.

The Lions were excellent at home in recent weeks but came back down to earth somewhat in defeat away to Leinster last weekend, and I think the handicap for this match is set about right.

There also appears to be some rain around and this has all the makings of a fairly tight and tactical encounter.

I was badly burnt earlier on the Bulls tries market, but I’m going to pick myself up off the canvas one more time and back this game to stay relatively low scoring.

With both teams likely to place a strong emphasis on territory, discipline and game management, I’m hoping the unders can get home here.

I am not going to bet on the Scarlets v Dragons game

Bet: Leinster v Ospreys

Posted 16 May 12h45

2 units (1-5) Leinster -10.5 first-half handicap at 1/1 at WSB

Leinster are not quite at full strength, but they should still be far too strong for an Ospreys side with nothing left to play for.

Leinster, meanwhile, can still finish second on the log with victory here and they are currently 22-point favourites with the total points line set at 53.5.

With a major final looming on the horizon against Bordeaux next week, I’m looking for Leinster to come out hard, build an early lead and effectively get the job done before potentially taking the foot off the gas in the second half.

The first-half handicap therefore appeals more than the full-game line, and I’m backing the home side to make a fast start in Dublin.

Bet: Bulls v Benetton

Posted 16 May 12h37

3 units (1-5) Bulls over 8.5 tries at 0.87/1 at Pokerbet

The Bulls are massive favourites for this game and are currently trading at around -31.5 against a Benetton side that were heavily beaten by the Sharks in Durban last weekend.

I was hoping the bookmakers would pitch the points line somewhere in the high 60s or early 70s, but they were clearly onto me and have gone up at 79.5.

Conditions at Loftus should be perfect for attacking rugby and I fully expect the Bulls to cut loose.

If pushed on the handicap, I would lean towards the Bulls on the -31.5, but the market I prefer is the Bulls total tries which removes the concern of consolation tries.

I’m looking for the home side to score at least nine tries and this is going to be my biggest bet of the weekend.

Bet: Sharks v Zebre

Posted 16 May 10h51

1.5 units (1-5) Zebre under 18.5 points at 1.85 at Pokerbet

The Sharks are -28.5 favourites for this fixture and the total points line is set at 64.5.

I actually went with Sharks over 45.5 points in the newsletter before having a proper look at the weather forecast, but there is now some concern around possible rain in Durban.

I do not want to completely contradict that earlier position, but I have found myself drawn towards the Zebre team total unders at 18.5. I see there is even a 16.5 available elsewhere.

If conditions do become slippery, I think Zebre are more likely to struggle for points than they did last week against the Bulls, where they ultimately fell short of landing the four-try bonus point.

Bet: Friday Night Double

Posted 15 May 15h31

1 unit Glasgow Warriors -9.5 at 9/10 and Connacht -4.5 at 9/10 at 5/2 at WSB

My main focus on Friday night is going to be the Stormers game, but I will have a small interest double in the other two URC fixtures.

Money has come for the Glasgow Warriors, with the handicap moving from -6.5 to -9.5. Although Ulster would love to win this game to strengthen their top-eight hopes, their focus is most likely on next week’s Challenge Cup final against Montpellier.

Glasgow, meanwhile, will be highly motivated to secure a bonus point win in order to guarantee they stay ahead of the Stormers, who are playing Cardiff at the same time.

In the other match, Connacht currently sit ninth on the table and a victory would, in all likelihood, see them finish in the playoff places. Edinburgh have produced some strong performances but all too seldom this season, and with little left to play for here, I fancy the visitors to get the job done.

The points lines are set at 50.5 in the Ulster game and 51.5 in Edinburgh and, if pushed for additional bets, I would lean towards the overs in both fixtures as I think we could see plenty of points scored.

Bet: Cardiff v Stormers

Posted 14 May 23h49

2 units (1-5) over 48.5 points at 10/11 at WSB

The Stormers are firm favourites for this fixture at -8.5, but Cardiff still have playoff ambitions of their own and know that a victory would secure their place in the last eight.

The Stormers will be chasing a bonus point win to improve their chances of a top of the table finish but, perhaps more importantly, to stay ahead of Leinster in the race for second place behind the Glasgow Warriors.

The points line is set at 48.5 and, while there is some rain forecast earlier in the day, I still think this could develop into a high-scoring encounter.

A bonus point would suit both teams, so I expect both sides to show attacking intent and go in search of tries. At the same time, the importance of the result means we could also see a few shots taken at goal which would only help the total along.

The last three meetings between these sides would all have produced enough points to land this bet, and I’m hoping for more of the same here.

Round 18 Handicap Projections

Posted 10 May 18h32

Here are my projected handicaps

Cardiff Rugby +6.5 vs DHL Stormers
Ulster +4.5 vs Glasgow Warriors
Edinburgh Rugby +4.5 vs Connacht - tough one to cap, Edinburgh have nothing to play for
Hollywoodbets Sharks -25.5 vs Zebre Parma
Vodacom Bulls -29.5 vs Benetton
Leinster -16.5 vs Ospreys - assuming Leinster will rest players
Scarlets -3.5 vs Dragons RFC
Munster -4.5 vs Fidelity ADT Lions

ROUND 17 RESULTS

Glasgow Warriors 40-17 Cardiff Rugby – Glasgow were -16.5 and I left this game alone
Ulster 38-38 DHL Stormers – There was money for Ulster from +3.5 to +0.5 and I backed the Stormers to win at 9/10. They had their chances but came up just short.
Vodacom Bulls 54-19 Zebre Parma – The handicap was Bulls -33.5 and the points line 73.5. I took Zebre over 3.5 tries and it looked on but they made some shocking kicks when on attack and were pushed off an attacking scrum put in.
Hollywoodbets Sharks 46-7 Benetton – The over 8.5 total tries snuck in after a slow start and although Benetton were backed from +14.5 to +10.5 the Sharks easily delivered on the handicap
Ospreys 27-20 Scarlets – Ospreys started -5.5 and I included over 48.5 points in a treble
Leinster 31-7 Fidelity ADT Lions – I was on the Lions +12.5 and at one stage I thought they might win but Leinster finished strong
Dragons 15-24 Edinburgh– no real interest but did have over 51.5 in a treble
Connacht 26-7 Munster – I was torn between Connacht -4 and a 1-12 win and chose incorrectly

LEAGUE TABLE UPDATE

At the top of the table, the fight for home playoff advantage remains wide open, while lower down Connacht are still trying to force their way into the quarter-finals.

The Glasgow Warriors (60 pts) remain top heading into the final round after a convincing win over Cardiff.

The Stormers (59 pts) are right behind them following their dramatic draw with Ulster, while Leinster (58 pts) remain firmly in contention for a top-two finish after comfortably beating the Lions.

The Bulls (54 pts) are well placed for a home quarter-final with a dominant victory over Zebre.

Further down:

  • Lions (53 pts) remain 5th despite their loss in Dublin
  • Munster (51 pts) are 6th
  • Cardiff (50 pts) currently occupy 7th
  • Ulster (50 pts) hold the final playoff spot

The pressure is squarely on Connacht (49 pts), who kept themselves alive with a crucial win over Munster and now head into the final round just one point outside the top eight.

ROUND 18 FIXTURES

Friday 15 May 2026

Cardiff Rugby vs DHL Stormers
Ulster vs Glasgow Warriors
Edinburgh Rugby vs Connacht

Saturday 16 May 2026

Hollywoodbets Sharks vs Zebre Parma
Vodacom Bulls vs Benetton
Leinster vs Ospreys
Scarlets vs Dragons RFC
Munster vs Fidelity ADT Lions

This final round has the feel of playoff rugby already, particularly for the teams fighting around the cutoff line.

Connacht still have a genuine chance of sneaking into the top eight, while Ulster and Cardiff both face extremely difficult assignments against title contenders.

At the top, the race for home-ground advantage throughout the playoffs remains critical and there is still plenty to play for despite several quarter-final spots already being secured.

I’ll have projected handicaps up later tonight.
